This position is for a Launch Site Integration Engineer (LSIE) with the KLXS III contract Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) group supporting NASA's Exploration Ground Systems (EGS) Program at Kennedy Space Center. This work involves payloads technical integration efforts across the EGS, Orion and Space Launch System (SLS) elements, as well as others throughout the payloads and product life cycle. The SE&I Launch Site Integration Engineer for Payloads will support advanced planning and payload integration for current and future space exploration and science missions. This includes the development of payload integration documentation, concepts of operation, trade studies, and requirements. They will interface with customers and support payload developer meetings and reviews. Lead architectural trade studies and assessments for near-term and long-term planning activities, (e.g., Artemis SLS Payload Fairing Processing, SLS Evolution, Nuclear Thermal Propulsion, Mars, Deep Space Gateway, etc.).

Responsibilities:

  • Duties and Responsibilities may include (but are not limited to):
  • Support advanced planning and payload integration for current and future space exploration and science missions.
  • Lead, perform and support assessments and trade studies.
  • Develop and book-manage the EGS Launch Site Support and Requirements Document.
  • Develop program review board packages and give presentations at forums.
  • Responsible for leading payload specific program action request efforts received from cross-program partners and internal assessments.
  • Lead technical integration efforts and resolve conflicts related to cross-program requirements.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Participate in technical reviews and provide assessments and present findings at various boards/forums.
  • Conduct studies and monitor milestone progress.
  • Create monthly status reports.
  • Recommend innovations to existing processes, procedures, development cycles, requirement tracking and other areas within the scope of this position.
  • Monitor and review action items and meet with assignee(s) for resolution.
  • Required knowledge: MS Office applications; Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams.
  • Required skills: Excellent communication and presentation skills, self-starter who can work independently with minimal direction yet is also comfortable working in a team environment.
  • Lead planning and coordination of cross-program and agency events associated with payload needs. Support EGS, Cross-Program, and Payload developer Life Cycle milestones

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Perform systems engineering and integration functions to support aerospace programs/projects involving spacecraft, launch vehicle, associated ground systems, payloads, and high-tech systems.
  • Develop, integrate, and implement operational requirements or technical integration/processes to meet mission and payload objectives.
  • Effective and clear communicator with the ability to present technical issues.
  • Self-starter with outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work in a team environment co-located with customers, NASA and other contractors.
  • Proven work as a cohesive team member with many different technical experts in a dynamic schedule-driven environment.
  • Flexible to changing work demands, multi-task, operate with minimal direct supervision, and meet all customer deadlines. Work on-site at KSC 5 days per week.

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) required, preferably in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or Industrial & Systems Engineering.
  • 5 years of related experience is required. (Master's degree can substitute years of experience.)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of theories, concepts and practices and ability to use in complex situations.
  • Familiarity and experience with NASA EGS programs and processes.
