Civil Service Title- Civil Engineer II

* IN ORDER TO BE CONSIDERED FOR THIS POSITION CANDIDATE MUST BE SERVING PERMANENTLY IN THE CIVIL ENGINEER TITLE, OR BE REACHABLE ON THE CIVIL SERVICE LIST.*

Serves as Civil Engineer 2 in the Engineering Review Section of the Bureau of Engineering Review and Support, Division of Bridges.
Reviews technically complex City-let bridge and retaining wall projects including design drawings and calculations at various phases of design and construction to ensure compliance with City, State and federal standards and requirements. Reviews proposed private development projects within close proximity to bridge and retaining wall structures, including foundation drawings, Support of Excavation (SOE) plans and geotechnical reports to assess potential impacts on the City-owned structures, and reviews monitoring reports during construction. Reviews structural analysis calculations for the bridge and retaining wall to ensure their safety under heavy trucks and crane loading during operation. Reviews invoices submitted by ESA consultant. Performs field inspections of bridge and retaining walls to assess condition and to perform feasibility study. Performs field visits to construction sites, attends progress meetings with the contractors, other Agencies, and consultants and conduct meetings with consultants, contractors, developers, or other Agencies. Respond to emergencies and or complaint form public about dangerous conditions, and conduct filed visits to assess condition and prepare repairs and recommendations. Supervises subordinates in technical and administrative matters. Performs other Engineering Review related duties if assigned.

Preferred Skills
Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form. Knowledge of AASHTO LRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and NYSDOT Bride Inspection Manual is preferred. Knowledge of computer software such as STAAD PRO, SAP2000 and any other related software programs is preferred.

CIVIL ENGINEER - 20215

Minimum Qualifications

(1) Four (4) years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work; and
(2) A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License. Current New York State registration as a Professional Engineer must be maintained for the duration of your employment.

A masters degree in civil engineering from an accredited college or university, accredited by regional, national, professional or specialized agencies recognized as accrediting bodies by the U.S. Secretary of Education and by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required in "1" above.
Special Note:
In addition to above qualification requirements, to be eligible for placement in Assignment Levels II and III, individuals must have at least one year within the last three years of experience as a major contributor or a project leader on a complex project requiring additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
