Position Summary The Process Engineer will primarily support operations related to the coating line, focusing on process optimization, equipment performance, and quality improvement. While the main emphasis is on coating processes, the role also includes occasional involvement in downstream operations across the facility. The role will occasionally involve participation in projects at a nearby facility. Onsite meetings and trainings at that location may also be required. This position requires a hands-on approach, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to work effectively across both office and plant floor environments. Responsibilities
- Optimize equipment performance across mechanical, pneumatic, robotic, and related systems, including commissioning, testing, and field modifications.
- Standardize and document processes by writing new procedures or updating existing ones.
- Lead knowledge-sharing initiatives by training and mentoring team members across departments and shifts.
- Use critical thinking to identify, assess, and resolve problems; implement solutions to prevent recurrence of defects and productivity issues.
- Coordinate the definition and generation of operational parameters in relevant systems to support job costing, labor planning, and quoting processes.
- Manage multiple concurrent projects, both independently and collaboratively, ensuring timely delivery and alignment with business goals.
- Plan, organize, and execute new projects aimed at improving yields, uptime, and cycle times.
- Document and communicate project status, changes, and updates to managers, engineers, and technicians.
- Build and maintain relationships with suppliers and external resources to ensure cost-effective process development and equipment support.
- Stay current with industry trends, both technical and market based.
- Initiate and support continuous improvement efforts to reduce waste, variation, and employee fatigue using established methodologies.
- Support and coach others in the use of Lean and Six Sigma tools.
- Crosstrain in related functions and assist others in developing cross-functional capabilities.
- Implement controls to reduce variation in both established and new processes.
- Meet personal and company performance metrics.
- Learn, understand, and follow documented work procedures.
- Must be able to travel and work off-shifts as needed.
- Collaborate with production, maintenance, quality, and engineering teams to ensure seamless process integration and continuous improvement.
Personal Attributes and Experience
- 2-year technical degree or certificate in related field and 2-4 years related experience or equivalent combination of education and experience. BS Engineering degree preferred.
- Working knowledge of instruments, tools, and process control equipment.
- Experience with:
- Pumps, conveyors, coating application equipment, and other manufacturing systems.
- Mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and basic electrical systems.
- CNC machinery programming and operation.
- Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC), primarily Allen Bradley; Siemens experience is a plus.
- 3D printing.
- Industrial robots (Kuka, ABB, Fanuc).
- Proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD software, with preferred experience in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Microsoft Project.
- Ability to learn and apply job-specific software and new technologies.
- Basic project planning and management skills.
- Familiarity with Lean and Six Sigma concepts; formal Six Sigma training preferred (Green Belt or higher).
- Strong mechanical aptitude and effective problem-solving skills, including root cause analysis.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to coach and collaborate across teams.
- Capable of developing and implementing action plans to meet target conditions.
- Detail-oriented with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
Working Conditions This position requires flexibility to operate effectively in both office and plant floor environments, with a primary focus on the coating line. The successful candidate will also engage with downstream operations as needed. The office environment is generally moderate in noise level, while the production floor is louder and involves proximity to moving mechanical equipment. The recommended work schedule is Monday through Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM or 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM.
