Senior TechOps Engineer
What you will be doing: All levels of Tech Ops Engineers will be involved in the packaging of release components and preparing them for deployment into defined environments working with development leads to collect needed artifacts with an understanding of Premier's products and how each system relates to other systems. Responsible for the installation, integration, setup, administration, maintenance, and enhancement of new and existing applications and infrastructure. Assist the architecture team in design and implementation of new systems and infrastructure. Collaborate with development and operations teams to educate the organization on product capabilities and best practices to ensure a stable, efficient production environment. Assist in production monitoring and support and will be responsible for the management of the different environments (QA, Production, UAT, and Training). Ensure applications are running efficiently in all environments (patching, vulnerability monitoring, etc.).
This level will work on tasks that are well defined and work independently with minimal supervision. The senior level can take a high level (and often vague) task and break it down into small well-defined tasks themselves. Possesses the ability to troubleshoot issues. Mentors and delegates tasks to other team members.
* Infrastructure * Application Management * Engineering Key Responsibilities Responsibility #1- 60% Tech Ops Engineering * Utilize their knowledge of infrastructure design to work closely with architects in server creation and on-going maintenance tasks. Utilize knowledge of features and upcoming releases to drive technology decisions, performance improvements, data protection, and mentor others. * Provide direction on areas / products to investigate; weigh pros / cons to recommend the go-forward path * Ability to write, enhance, and troubleshoot scripts and tools to deploy and upgrade. Should have hands on experience navigating UNIX/LINUX systems as well as sound shell scripting experience. Should be able to identify and write the requirements for any scripting projects that are needed. * Able to troubleshoot very complex issues using both experience and a proven series of steps. Assists all members of the team with troubleshooting issues. Able to identify issues ahead of time through monitoring and research to prevent escalations or member impact. Documents steps taken and resolution for future use. * Determine priorities for automation of server management and software deployment * Working with agile development teams * Utilizing bug tracking tools/process. * Takes ownership of issues, researches, and diagnose them Responsibility #2 - 15% Methodology / Standards * Retain Audit compliance while supporting development teams. Design and develop standards and the solutions to support them * Implementation of best practice techniques to engineer for performance and mitigate risk. Work with development teams to meet this goal. * Actively seek technical debt to reduce; add debt reduction to team's workload * Understanding of basic Change Management principals, able to create standard changes when applicable, and both understands and prevents unauthorized changes. Work with team on possible standard changes for middleware maintenance tasks. * Digest the vulnerabilities report, and schedule necessary upgrades and patches to mitigate. * Includes best practices and standards in their work and provides guidance to Associates and Engineers on adjustments necessary for adherence to those same standards. Able to track work activities across multiple Associates or Engineers and understand how that work comes together. Responsibility #3 - 15% Team Involvement * Clear verbal, visual and written communication. Responsible for communication to stakeholders, senior leadership or other departments on a routine basis. Able to shift between technical and lay-speak with ease, depending on audience. Expertly able to handle department-wide presentation or representing Premier in front of customers. Communication evidences a complete understanding of big-picture context. * Meetings expand beyond project work, or span across teams / departments. Provides agenda and context. Delegates work when necessary and models active listening and participation. * Capable of leading any team meetings like standups, planning and requirement discussions and frequently performs these functions when management delegates this responsibility. Comfortable presenting to Sr. Leadership * Knows who needs to be invited to a meeting and manages invitations accordingly. * Works with Engineers and Architects to convey a thought and its rationale related to a strategic technical concept and how tactical work connects to that strategy. Influences outside sphere of project team to include stakeholders or peers on other teams. * Developing the skill set to influence others at any level by gaining respect. * Demonstrates emerging emotional maturity in the organization * Status reports contain suggestions or options to mitigate risks and demonstrate an awareness of longer-term project implications * Understands concepts of capital investment, product life and depreciation. Aligns this to technical decisions they suggest for their projects. Business acumen largely related to the product(s) they are responsible for. Business acumen ties multiple products within a department together for a larger view. * Collaborates with Engineers and Architects to share ideas and design systems. Requires little oversight. * Knows the value Premier provides its customers at a departmental level and how those products are used to in a business context * Understands the role of Product Management in the organization and how it interacts with an Agile delivery team * Models use of relative estimation. Able to accurately estimate their current work, and work that is on the backlog or roadmap that has little-to-no design details. Rarely requires oversight on prioritization needs - uses their discretion well to prioritize work. * Vocally advocates for minimal WIP. Models behavior of Engineers being responsible for Testing and other delivery activities. Models behavior of adjusting their work schedule as needed to effectively balance work and life. Responsibility #4 - 10% Leadership * Actively participates in solution design and other discussions with the team and consistently is able to implement the agreed-upon development approach * Drives change within the team * Provides guidance, support, and mentorship to less senior teammates * Developing the skill set to influence others at any level by gaining respect, emotional maturity in the organization * May delegate to less senior team members; Will drive results of those to whom you are delegating * Developing team task ownership; Takes initiative to determine their tasks and may assign tasks to less senior team members * Activity building the professional cross-functional relations. Premier's compensation philosophy is to ensure that compensation is reasonable, equitable, and competitive in order to attract and retain talented and highly skilled employees. Premier's internal salary range for this role is $90,000 - $150,000. Final salary is dependent upon several market factors including, but not limited to, departmental budgets, internal equity, education, unique skills/experience, and geographic location. Premier utilizes a wide-range salary structure to allow base salary flexibility within our ranges.
