The Web Content Strategist plays a pivotal role in shaping the content experience across First Citizens Bank's web properties. This position is responsible for driving the strategy, structure, and governance of digital content that supports business objectives and meets user needs. As a strategic partner to business and marketing teams, the Web Content Strategist will guide the development of clear, compelling, and consistent web content that enhances the user journey, improves SEO performance, and reflects the bank's brand voice and messaging. This role requires a mix of UX writing, content architecture, governance, and optimization expertise.

The ideal candidate is a hands-on strategist with deep experience in enterprise-level financial services websites, content lifecycle management, cross-functional collaboration, and performance-driven content improvements. You will lead web content strategy efforts in alignment with business goals, brand standards, and user insights, ensuring that our web experience drives engagement, education, and conversion.


Responsibilities

Web Content Strategy & Governance

  • Lead the development of web content strategies in alignment with marketing and business priorities.
  • Own and maintain the information architecture and content structure of key areas of the website.
  • Collaborate with Brand, UX, Digital Product, IT, and Business teams to ensure content is user-centered, accessible, and on-brand.
  • Conduct content audits, competitive benchmarking, and gap analyses to inform recommendations and priorities.
  • Maintain content standards, governance guidelines, and documentation for web writers and contributors across the organization.

Content Planning & Development

  • Plan, brief, and guide the migration of web content across CMS platforms.
  • Align content formats, page structures and user journeys, supporting campaigns, product launches, and lifecycle communications.
  • Ensure all content aligns with SEO best practices, UX principles, accessibility standards (WCAG), and the bank's editorial guidelines.
  • Work cross-functionally with design, development, and digital operations teams to execute content initiatives.
  • Partner with legal and compliance teams to ensure accuracy, clarity, and approval of all published content.

Optimization & Performance

  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for content effectiveness (e.g., engagement, conversion, bounce rate, SEO rankings).
  • Use web analytics, user research, and testing insights to continuously optimize content and user experience.
  • Collaborate with the Marketing Analytics and SEO teams to monitor content performance and recommend improvements.
  • Leverage CMS tools to implement changes directly or manage execution through internal teams or agency partners.

Qualifications

Bachelor's Degree and 6 years of experience in Content (Journalism, English, or Marketing) OR High School Diploma or GED and 10 years of experience in Content (Journalism, English, or Marketing)

Preferred Education: Bachelor's degreePreferred

Area of Study: Communications or JournalismPreferred

Skills:

Strategic planning and research, Cross-skilled across brand, CX, content, media, channels, some Marketing Technology and data analytics , Experience in leading development across multiple content formats including but not limited to research papers, executive blogs, SME insights, webinars, podcasts, email copy, ad copy and social media , Expert writing skills - both educational/editorial and promotional , Partnership / collaboration and ability to connect with diverse, cross-functional departments, capabilities, levels, and individuals , Prioritization

Preferred Skills:

  • Strategic thinker with 8+ years of experience in web content strategy, UX writing, or digital content management within a complex organization.
  • Demonstrated experience leading content initiatives for large-scale websites, including ownership of IA and governance.
  • Strong knowledge of SEO, user experience design, digital accessibility, and web analytics.
  • Exceptional writing and editing skills, with the ability to translate complex concepts into user-friendly web content.
  • Experience with enterprise CMS platforms (e.g., Adobe AEM, Sitecore, Optimizely) and familiarity with content taxonomy and metadata.
  • Comfortable collaborating across marketing, product, compliance, design, and development teams.
  • Experience managing external content vendors or agencies.
  • Proactive, organized, and adaptable to a fast-paced, evolving environment.
  • Current contractor/contingent worker for SVB
