What to Expect

Consider before submitting an application:

This position is expected to start around January 2026 and continue through the Winter/Spring term (ending approximately May 2026) or continuing into Summer 2026 if available and there is an opportunity to do so. We ask for a minimum of 12 weeks, full-time and on-site, for most internships. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in an academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for full-time positions, not internships.

International Students: If your work authorization is through CPT, please consult your school on your ability to work 40 hours per week before applying. You must be able to work 40 hours per week on-site. Many students will be limited to part-time during the academic year.

About the team: The Factory Firmware Team is seeking a Firmware Integration Engineer to develop software tools for vehicle diagnostics, testing and validation. As a Firmware Integration Engineer, you will develop software tools for the factory side-by-side with development, quality, and manufacturing teams. You will be expected to move projects along at an aggressive pace - pulling together the contributions of cross-functional engineering and manufacturing teams into a cohesive solution. You will also be expected to get your hands dirty in the details of various subsystems - digging through vehicle logs, root causing issues and developing solutions to complex problems. The Factory Firmware Team is the eyes and ears of the Firmware organization within the factory and often have the last say on the deployment of new firmware to manufacturing - providing valuable insight and feedback to accelerate development of new software features.


What You'll Do
  • Develop software tools for vehicle diagnostics, testing, and validation
  • Set up system level manufacturing processes, related to firmware, frominitialconcept to final product
  • Integrate vehicle firmware tests in manufacturing and support new program launches, both hardware and software
  • Validate firmware in manufacturing through the integration and release of new firmware versions
  • Develop software solutions to bridge manufacturing process gaps,maintainingfirmware quality, and streamlining production
  • Develop and improve tools as well as resolve firmware related issues to support production in meeting their targets
  • Influence the end-to-end process of firmware integration into vehicle subsystems within manufacturing
  • Troubleshoot high priority production situations through root cause analysis and implementation ofshort- and long-termsolutions

What You'll Bring
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, or a related field of study with a graduation date between May 2026 - May 2027
  • Experience with Python or other scripting languages and/or C/C++ for embedded systems
  • Experience working with large data sets in a production environment (SQL, Splunk, etc.)
  • Manage and utilize version control systems (e.g., GitHub) for collaborative development
  • Understanding of product branching strategies and monolithic repositories, with experience working with new product introduction and process improvements is a plus
  • Experience communicating complex technical concepts to others of varied technical backgrounds
  • Experience testing andvalidatingembedded software in electro-mechanical systemspreferred
  • Experience working in high-volume manufacturing environments, particularly those with complex software integration and release processes, is a plus
