Job Overview:

MG Orthopedics is seeking a Certified Medical Assistant to perform routine clinical and clerical tasks under the direction of a physician or other health practitioner. Clinical duties may include taking and recording vital signs, medical histories, preparing patients for examination, drawing blood, processing prescription refills, and assisting with minor procedures as directed by a physician or health practitioner. The CMA acts as a practice ambassador, contributing to overall patient experience, safety, and privacy.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • At least 6 months of relevant experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Medical office procedures and medical terminology knowledge

Preferred:

  • Minimum of one year of experience in a medical office

    Phlebotomy and EKG
  • Knowledge of electronic medical record (EMR) systems

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • BLS Certification approved by the American Heart Association
  • Medical Assistant Certification: AAMA, AECA, AMCA, AMT, NAHP, NCCT, NCMA, or NHA

Scheduling Requirements:

  • 8:00am - 4:30pm
  • Monday - Friday
  • Full-Time
  • Travel is required within Essex County

Essential Functions:

  • Cleans and autoclaves instruments
  • Obtains and records vitals per Physician's request
  • Prepares injections for the Physician as per protocols
  • Answers telephones in patient treatment areas
  • Covers other areas in the office as directed by their manager
  • Covers Provider messages and voicemail as needed or requested
  • Greets patients in the waiting room and escorts them to the exam room
  • Provides and scans proper paperwork into the chart for Physician's review
  • Attends required meetings and participates on committees as requested
  • Reads and responds to email communications within appropriate time frame
  • Exemplifies the desired culture and philosophies of the organization
  • Identifies weekly schedule, including schedule changes, published by manager
  • Completes pre-certifications for MRI's, injectable, and other Physician orders as necessary
  • Send Visco Injection authorization request to supplement pre-certification representative
  • Follow order instructions of provider to ensure specimen is sent to appropriate lab for analyzation
  • Requests, obtains and uploads reports from various facilities for Physicians to have available for review
  • Maintains order, cleanliness, and inventory in the exam room, and prepares exam room for patients to enter
  • Pulls up x-rays, MRI's, CT's, and various studies, including reports associated, pertaining to the patient's exam
  • Handles specimens including urine, blood and drainage from incisions, and aspirated fluids, etc, and label accordingly
  • Directs patient throughout the patient experience including to orthotics, rehab, surgery scheduling, xray and/or front desk
  • Reviews Physician schedules for chart preparation including ensuring operative reports, dictations, and studies are present in the chart
  • Disposes of bio hazardous waste and sharps according to OSHA regulation, and replaces sharps containers when existing containers are full
  • Scans appointment tracking to identify when patients are ready to be seen by the Physician and directs Physician in patient appointment order
  • Other duties as assigned
