Qualifications

Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree and four years of experience in systems administration or IT operations.

Substitution for Bachelor's degree: Relevant IT Associate's Degree.

OR

An Associate's degree and two years of related IT experience may substitute for the bachelor's degree requirement.

Substitution of Experience for Education: Related IT experience may substitute for the required bachelor's degree on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of four years.

Necessary Special Qualifications: None.

Examination Method: Education and Experience, 100% for Preferred Service positions.

Overview

Under general direction, this classification leads complex enterprise systems support, including server administration, visualization, storage, and disaster recovery planning. Provides technical guidance and mentors team members while ensuring system performance and security. This lead-level role supervises systems administration activities, researches and architects enterprise IT solutions, and creates documentation for procedures, configurations, and disaster recovery and business continuity. This class differs from the Systems Administrator-Adv in that an incumbent of the latter analyzes systems logs and researches failure codes for resolutions and implements solutions.

Responsibilities

1. Monitor system health and logs; resolve errors and recommend improvements.
2. Design, configure, and support storage, server, and backup systems.
3. Architect and implement disaster recovery, visualization, and data replication.
4. Create and maintain system documentation and technical procedures.
5. Mentor and support team members in troubleshooting and project work.
6. Coordinate with vendors and stakeholders to resolve escalated technical issues.
7. Provision virtual environments and evaluate storage needs for enterprise operations.
