This position will support didactic and clinical instruction for students learning how to perform the surgical technologist role in surgical and procedural areas. The individual in this position must have current certified surgical technologist experience supporting new surgical technologist onboarding in diverse surgical specialties.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of an Accredited Surgical Technologist Program 2. Certified in the Specialty of Surgical Technology EXPERIENCE: 1. 2 or more years of experience as Certified Surgical Technologist 2. Current active status functioning as a Certified Surgical Technologist in a perioperative setting CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. Supports STAT Clinical Education Coordinator in the delivery of didactic and clinical instruction in Surgical Technology. 2. Assists with the clinical evaluation of student performance and program curriculum; performs clinical competencies with students. 3. Daily implements student clinical rotation schedule. Participates in recruiting and interviewing of potential students. 4. With STAT Clinical Education Coordinator, evaluates program effectiveness. Provides feedback to the Senior Administrativeprogram sponsor and STAT Clinical Education Coordinator to assure effective program operations and student retention. 5. Maintains continuous and open communication with department personnel, clinical preceptors, and students with respect to changes and updates in programmatic administration, and/or instructional policies and procedures. 6. Actively serves as clinical instructor through proactive involvement and communication to assure effective program operations. Assists with the coordination of visiting expert lecturers to provide students with diverse learning experiences. 7. Assists STAT Clinical Education Coordinator with the maintenance of a clinical education plan and other documentation which identifies and supports the program's mission. Maintains student records as mandated by federal, state, and organizational policies. 8. Actively participates in patient care and surgical/invasive procedures in an effort to maintain professional and clinical skills. 9. Participates in meetings, projects, and committees, as directed, in an effort to contribute to the attainment of established goals and objectives including the development of a sustainable surgical technologist workforce. 10. Actively participates in professional development activities such as periodic attendance at professional society meetings, to maintaincurrent knowledge of national clinical practice standards. Lift, push and pull up to 50 pounds of weight. 3. Carry items of up to 20 pounds. 4. Perform work wearing surgical attire and PPE. Proficient in clinical mentoring including provision of clinical performance feedback. 2. Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office applications to include Word, Excel, & PowerPoint. 3. Current proficient scrubbing skills and a sound knowledge of applied surgical procedural techniques. 4. Professional interpersonal skills. 5. Proficient in diversity training.
