The Department of Urology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine seeks a highly motivated and creative Research Associate interested in tumor biology and cancer immunology to join the lab of Dr. Allison May. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge cancer research in a collaborative and forward-thinking environment. The May lab studies the mechanisms of tumor progression and the complex interplay between tumor cell signaling and the immune microenvironment in renal cell carcinoma. Our work integrates innovative experimental models including in vivo and in vitro systems with the development of patient-derived ex vivo platforms that capture the complexity and heterogeneity of human RCC. We also leverage advanced computational tools, including single cell and spatial transcriptomics and proteomics, to explore how tumor and immune cells evolve and interact within the tumor microenvironment. The successful candidate will primarily focus on experimental benchwork, but those with experience or interest in computational analyses as well are strongly encouraged to apply. The candidate will be involved in the planning, design, execution, and management of research projects focusing on kidney cancer and tumor cell/immune cell interactions in kidney tumors. The successful candidate must have a collaborative mindset and enthusiasm for interdisciplinary science. Successful candidates must have strong laboratory experience and effective oral and written communication skills as evidenced by a solid track record of scientific manuscripts and presentations. High priority will be given to candidates with prior experience in flow cytometry and immunology techniques. Responsibilities
