Join DLZ as a LiDAR Processing Professional
DLZ is seeking a highly skilled and dependable LiDAR Processing Professional to join our Industrial Group. This is a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge surveying and engineering projects that shape transportation, construction, and infrastructure across the Midwest.
Current openings are available in Burns Harbor, IN, Chicago, IL, and Joliet, IL, depending on application timing.
What You'll Do
As a LiDAR Processing Professional, you will:
  • Register, geo-reference, and optimize LiDAR datasets from terrestrial, hydrographic, aerial, and mobile platforms
  • Perform scan-to-scan, cloud-to-cloud, and target-based registrations using Cyclone, Reg360, and RiScan
  • Classify and extract features using LP360, TopoDOT, DJI Terra, and Trimble Business Center
  • Generate surface models (DTMs, DSMs, TINs) and integrate deliverables into AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation
  • Apply survey control and geodetic principles to ensure survey-grade accuracy
  • Conduct QA/QC checks and develop repeatable workflows for processing efficiency
  • Support field teams with control planning and scan data acquisition
  • Train junior technicians and stay current with LiDAR advancements

What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications:

  • Associate or Bachelor's degree in Surveying, Geomatics, Civil Engineering, GIS, or related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 3+ years of professional LiDAR processing experience
  • Proficiency in at least two of the following: Cyclone, Reg360, RiScan, LP360, DJI Terra, Civil 3D, MicroStation, TopoDOT
  • Strong understanding of survey control networks, GNSS/IMU integration, and coordinate systems
  • Proven ability to generate engineering-grade deliverables (planimetrics, topography, breaklines, cross-sections)
  • Experience managing multi-gigabyte datasets and QA/QC workflows
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
  • Valid driver's license and authorization to work in the U.S. without sponsorship

Preferred Skills:

  • Experience with UAV and terrestrial LiDAR sensors (DJI L2, Riegl, Leica)
  • Drone pilot license and flight planning experience
  • Familiarity with machine learning for automated classification
  • Professional Surveyor license (PLS/PS) or LSIT certification

This position has a salary range of USD $100,000.00/Yr.-USD $125,000.00/Yr., your specific compensation will be determined by a combination of factors, including your job-related knowledge, skill level, education, experience, and overall qualifications.
