Position Summary: The Manager, Machining is responsible for managing a team of approximately 100 - 200 machining employees. This includes but is not limited to adherence of delivery schedules, meeting quality expectations, coordinating and building a team of Supervisors, Machinists, and Operators to maximize efficiency and quality, improve product flow, and reduce in-process lead time. Working in a team environment, the Manager, Machining will collaborate with Quality and Engineering as well as other areas of the business.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:



  • Oversee daily machining operations, ensuring efficient workflow and timely completion of production targets.
  • Establish, track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs) across Machining to ensure alignment with goals, drive process improvement and optimize safety, productivity, quality, and efficiency.
  • Monitor machine shop performance metrics and make adjustments to improve productivity and reduce downtime.
  • Analyze schedules and resource availability to anticipate when overtime may be necessary to meet deadlines and production targets, ensuring that overtime is within budget limitations.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of supervisors, machinists, and support staff.
  • Provide training, performance evaluations, and ensure a high level of team morale and motivation by delivering clear and consistent feedback, and addressing all employee concerns in an efficient and fair manner
  • Maintain communication between employees and leadership, ensuring policies and procedures are well-understood.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency, quality, and reduce waste. Utilize lean manufacturing and Six Sigma principles to optimize machining processes.
  • Work closely with the Quality department to ensure all products meet stringent quality standards. Implement quality control protocols, including in-process inspections, to maintain production standards.
  • Ensure that all machinery and equipment are properly maintained and meet performance standards. Collaborate with maintenance teams for preventative and corrective actions.
  • Maintain a safe and clean work environment. Enforce compliance with all company and industry safety standards.
  • Conduct regular safety audits and training sessions for staff.
  • Develop and manage the machining department's budget, including labor, materials, and equipment maintenance costs. Identify areas for cost reduction without compromising quality.
  • Coordinate with other departments, such as production planning, procurement, and quality control, to ensure alignment on production schedules and inventory management.
  • Work with vendors and suppliers to source materials and tooling, negotiate contracts, and ensure timely delivery of parts and materials.
  • Generate reports on production metrics, such as cycle time, machine uptime, and scrap rates. Use data analysis to drive decision-making and process improvements.
  • Participate in and sustain 5S Standards.
  • Must follow all required Safety and ISO procedures.
  • Miscellaneous duties as assigned.


Education/Experience & Skills:



  • High School diploma or equivalent required, Bachelor's degree is preferred, and 5-7 years of related work experience required and 3 years of experience in leading a team, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience supporting and implementing advanced technologies including operations setup, new equipment development, and process development.
  • Comfortable working in a dynamic work environment with an ability to adapt to changing priorities and responsibilities.
  • Ability to address problems that are highly varied, complex, and often non-recurring, requiring a collaborative problem-solving approach.
  • A proven track record of multi-tasking, excellent judgment, and decision-making skills are required.
  • Formal 5S training is preferred.
  • Experience with factory safety requirements, MSDS, and accident investigations.
  • Must be able to proficiently use MS Office, Oracle, and SPC programs.
  • Thorough knowledge of project management concepts, practices, and techniques. Project Management certification is a plus.
  • Firearms technical and functional experience is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ISO 9001 preferred.
  • Excellent organizational and interpersonal,
  • Ability to summarize, comprehend and communicate complex verbal and written information in English to employees, and external customers.
  • Ability to lead collaborative teams for larger projects or groups both internal and external to the SIG SAUER Company and across functional areas.


Working Conditions:



  • Regularly perform repetitive tasks.
  • Work is primarily standing (90 + % of the shift) except for lunch and break periods.
  • Shifts are 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours.
  • The duties of this job normally require exposure to a typical manufacturing environment. Frequent standing, sitting, stooping, squatting, walking, and stair climbing can be expected along with frequent lifting and/or moving of tooling, parts containers, and materials up to 40 pounds.
  • Must be able to reach with hands and arms, bend and kneel frequently at a minimum of 50% of the shift, as well as undergo repetitive wrist, hand, elbow, shoulder, and ankle motions.
  • Must demonstrate proficient fine motor skills, ability to grip, reach, pull, turn, and use tools to torque fixtures in various machinery or in the assembly, machining, or testing of parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required may include close vision, distance vision, peripheral and depth perception, and the ability to focus on fine print.
  • Must wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) where required.
  • Must comply with all work exposure EH&S training requirements and adhere to SIG SAUER Inc. security mandates.
