Description

Provides repairs, scheduled maintenance, and calibration on diagnostic imaging equipment and ancillary equipment used within the imaging environment. Services imaging equipment in assigned geography which may include but not limited to the following modalities: CR, Portables, C-Arms, conventional X-Ray, R&F, tomography, mammography, ultrasound, CT, MRI, Cath labs, nuclear medicine or linear accelerators.

Essential Functions:

Communication



  • Communicates effectively with clinical and technical caregivers who may have a limited knowledge of technology.
  • Effectively tailors communication to the audience. Articulates technical issues in a clear and concise manner.
  • Consistently communicates in a manner that de-escalates situations with caregivers and vendors.

  • Demonstrates knowledge and understanding of the pertinent technical and application environment across CTS.
  • Works in and through challenging situations with both internal and external customers.
  • Competently overcomes resistance and setbacks.
  • May participate in root cause analysis in response to system issues and downtimes, to improve reliability and recovery.


Customer Focus



  • Provides helpful hints and location(s) of training materials. Provides caregiver education as needed
  • Displays strong customer focus skills.
  • Regularly engages key caregivers (rounding, escalation, etc.) and provides representation for IS/Clinical Engineering to the caregiver.
  • Participates in discussions with caregiver to assess needs.
  • Takes accountability for customer satisfaction.
  • Defines solution options and recommendations.
  • May attend daily huddles as the CTS representative, speaking to issues and commitments, then documents and escalates appropriately.

Required Qualifications:



  • Associate's Degree in Biomedical Equipment Technology or
  • Coursework/Training: Electronics Technology, Military or Technical Training or equivalent educ/experience
  • Upon request: Driving may be necessary as part of this role. Caregivers are required to comply with all state laws and requirements for driving. Caregivers will be expected to provide proof of driver license and auto insurance upon request. See policy for additional information.


Preferred Qualifications:



  • 3 years of experience as a Radiological Service Engineer Or
  • 5 years experience in repair of biomedical equipment or equivalent field

Job Specific Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Biomed Documentation



  • Utilizes documentation to identify trends on repairs
  • Identify needed reports
  • Develops and maintains technical documentation associated with troubleshooting caregiver hardware and software issues.
  • Maintains and improves documentation standards.
  • Documents complicated workflows consistently


Regulatory Requirements



  • Follows OEM instructions when doing repairs, calibration and tests.
  • Complies with department policies, procedures and standards.


Clinical Engagement



  • Effectively communicates both verbally and in writing with staff, physicians, and visitors.
  • Actively participates with clinical department/ministry teams, e.g., imaging staff, PACS admins, etc.
  • Builds relationships through rounding with staff.
  • Interprets how changes will impact imaging devices / systems.
  • Demonstrates understanding of the broad business requirements of the clinical caregivers for the departments assigned.
  • Provides technical support (via telephone or on-site) to other engineers.
  • Provides consultation, information, training, and support to hospital staff and physicians in evaluating new or proposed Diagnostic Imaging and related systems.
  • Functions as the liaison between the manufacturer and the hospital personnel regarding equipment quality and standards before and after purchase.


Technology Foundation



  • Electronics Theory


Demonstrates broad knowledge of electronic theory, technology, and test equipment.

Demonstrates broad knowledge of color code conventions used in component and wiring marking.

Operates a wide variety of hand-tools, power tools, and test equipment used in the repair, testing and calibration of medical equipment.

Takes safety precautions while performing service-related activities with electrical equipment and identifies means to make a safer environment.

Participates in the local lock out, tag out (LOTO) program



  • Medical Imaging Devices


Performs repair, calibration, testing, and preventative maintenance on a variety of imaging devices according to manufacturer's specifications.

Demonstrates knowledge of basic anatomy and physiology as applied to use of imaging devices.

Runs diagnostic programs on a broad range imaging devices and uses results to identify any issues. Follows through on any necessary repairs/calibrations.

Maintains an adequate supply of specific and common spare parts to reduce equipment downtime.

Demonstrates knowledge of ultrasound and X-Ray physics



  • Operating Systems & Networks


Demonstrates knowledge of the application and repair of infrastructure supporting imaging equipment (e.g., computers, servers network equipment).

Runs various diagnostic programs (e.g., ScanDisk, Ping, Trace Route, OS commands).

Demonstrates basic knowledge of network theory and how it applies to Providence medical assets.

Understands and assists in the configuration of DHCP operations.

Provides basic troubleshooting of PACS, DICOM and Imaging Networks.

Performs repair, calibration, testing, and preventative maintenance on a variety of imaging devices according to manufacturer's specifications.
