Position Summary:

Provides scheduling for all programming of camp.Maintains knowledge of which campers are at which activities incasestaff or parents need tolocatecampers promptly. This position is also responsible for organizing staff and campers into "club" activities for the week. Maintains organization and clear communication between summer camp director, leadstaffand the rest of staff so that programming and transitions are high quality. Responsible for ensuring that staff follow the schedule tomaintainnecessary allotted times for activities to allow campers to get the most out of the programs provided atcampCullen.Creates a safe and positive atmosphere that promotescampersafety and engagement. Provides a quality experiencetochildren and parents focused on youth development including the YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility,caring, and faith.

Essential Functions:

  • Schedules activities and cabins in a mannerthatallows forseamlesstransitions andhigh-qualityprogramming.
  • Supervises staff to ensure that the schedule provided is beingobservedand followed.
  • Plans camp or village evening programs.
  • Coordinates and works with other lead staff and staff to ensure quality of programming.
  • Sorts new campers into their houses at the beginning of every week of camp.
  • Maintains record of returning campers and theirsubsequenthouses
  • Keeps organized details of campers' houses throughout the summer and provides reports to the summer camp director each week to be kept on record.
  • Plans and implements program activities that are culturally relevant, developmentallyappropriateand consistent with YMCA core values.
  • Participates in the closing down procedures of camp.
  • Works with the team to sort campers into their houses or keeprecordof returning campers and keeping them in their established house.
  • Maintains workingrelationshipwith CFT.
  • Submits requests in advance foradditionalequipment and supplies when needed.
  • Evaluates staff based on performance,safetyand positive engagement with campers.
  • Deliversa safe,funand effective summer camp program.

    • Maintains current knowledge of all emergency procedures


    • Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies, and guidelines for land activities.


    • Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to medical and disciplinary situations, child abusepreventionand emergencies.


    • Take immediate action to ensure safety procedures are followed by campers. Follows up with summer camp director todeterminelong term solutions/actions, providestimelyandaccuratereports and follow-ups.

  • Participates enthusiasticallywith other program staff toprepare camp forsummer camper arrivals, departures, andspecial events.
  • Participates enthusiasticallyinprogramstaffandallstaffmeetings andtrainings.
  • Maintains positive relations withguestsand other staff.Conveysinformation on programs and schedulesto campers.
  • Attends camp marketing events and otherspecial eventsasdirectedand other duties allow.
  • Representsand promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities.
  • Develops and maintainscollaborative relationships with community agencies in service deliveryarea.
  • All other duties assigned

Required to remain alert to dangerous situations while sitting, standing, or walking for various lengths of time.

Current record of tuberculosis examination and/or current local health department regulations, examinations, and/or immunization as requiredby the local or State Department of Health.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer 2years ofresident camp experience
  • Prefer 1 year of experiencein a supervisory role
  • CPR, First aid and O2certifications and Child Abuse Prevention training within30 daysof hire date.
  • Prefer knowledge of, andpreviousexperience with, diverse populations

Other Requirements:

The activity coordinator isrequiredto live on-site during the summer season.
