Job Title:Principal Engineer, PMO (Radio Frequency (RF) Specialty)

Position Summary

As a Principal Engineer for RF, you'll play a pivotal role within SES Space & Defense. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design and development of advanced and experimental solutions for satellite networks, which require excellent technical, leadership and communications skills. As a subject matter expert, you'll lead cross-functional teams, collaborating closely with the Space Initiatives business unit, Space Engineering team, and other SMEs of various disciplines to create your vision of the complete solution. Your responsibilities include designing and developing RF systems and subsystems, shaping the overall end-to-end RF architecture, introducing new and immerging RF technologies to the customer, and fostering strong teamwork skills. You'll thrive in an ever-evolving landscape, adapting to new challenges with a growth mindset. Your strong communication skills and keen ability to align technical features with business value will be key to success in this position.

Primary Responsibilities



  • Dynamic individual that can provide technical expertise in areas of end-to-end satellite network solution design.
  • Be the RF and SATCOM technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) to create, present, and deliver technical capabilities to existing and potential customers.
  • Assist Space Engineers with satellite and beam selection for new requirements, link budget analysis, and optimizing satellite link performance across the global network.
  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for mediaport / teleport issues, satellite interference, and other connectivity issues that SATOPS cannot resolve or needs support with.
  • Foster collaborative relationships with satellite operators and integrators to maintain current knowledge of their offerings and capabilities, and support GAN requirements. Advise appropriate personnel of the latest technical and engineering developments.
  • Lead or participate in the preparation of proposals (RFP/RFQ/RFI) to develop technically feasible, compliant, cutting edge, and cost-effective solution(s).
  • Draft and deliver technical proposals for satellite communications solutions, equipment, and services.
  • Support travel needs for customer meetings, projects, presentations, etc.
  • Support program growth including Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) for new capabilities and upgrading or expanding existing capabilities.
  • Exercise initiative to create opportunities vs waiting for the customer to ask for something. Identify, create, present, sell, and implement.
  • Support, communicate, reinforce and defend the mission, values and culture of the organization.
  • Ensure link budgets provided meet the USSOCOM mission requirement.
  • Support the installation, integration, and validation of communications equipment and software.
  • Produce and maintain comprehensive technical documentation, including system specifications, test procedures, and analysis reports.



Required Qualifications



  • Twenty (20) years of relevant satellite communications experience.
  • U.S. citizen and must possess a TS/SCI security clearance.
  • Expertise and experience in desired technical field to include:
    o In-depth knowledge of GEO, MEO and LEO SATCOM vendors and constellations.
    o In-depth knowledge of various satellite user terminal vendors and solutions.
    o Exposure and understanding of various satellite platform providers such as iDirect, Newtech, Comtech, GetSat, and Viasat.
    o Exposure and understanding of various satellite service providers such as SES, Inmarsat, Viasat, and Kymeta.
  • Functional understanding of performing Link Budget Analysis (LBA) and satellite beam selection in solutions architecture.
  • At least five (5) years of SOF experience.
  • At least five (5) years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Hands-on experience with RF test equipment such as spectrum analyzers, network analyzers, signal generators, etc.
  • Experience with providing X, Ku, C, and Ka band commercial satellite services.
  • Ability to develop, execute, and lead test plans for ground and space components, including specific tests for military user equipment over satellite systems.
  • Advanced knowledge of military and commercial SATCOM systems, concepts of operations and use cases of SATCOM and other RF systems across the SOCOM enterprise and/or other Geographic Combatant Commands and the Department of Defense.
  • Ability to effectively lead technical efforts and small teams on complex communications projects.
  • Strong technical communication skills (oral and written).



Desirable Qualifications



  • Bachelor's or master's degree in engineering or comparable discipline is preferred.
  • Familiarity with satellite waveforms, modems, and operating them.
