Primary Purpose of Department
The Department of Public Health and Health Administration ( PHHA), which will be created in Fall 2026 by the merger of the Department of Epidemiology and Community Health and the Department of Health Management and Policy, is committed to prepare students and scholars to lead impactful public health initiatives, expand access to quality care, and contribute to healthier outcomes for populations. The Department has extensive ties with local and regional health departments, health care systems, and other community partners. In addition to our CEPH-accredited BSPH, MPH and PhD degree programs; we offer a BS in Health Systems Management, and a CAHME-accredited MHA program; and we collaborate with the School of Data Science in the delivery of an MS in Health Informatics and Analytics. The Department consists of 30 full-time faculty serving approximately 1,000 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. The Department is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health ( ASPPH) and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration ( AUPHA). The Department is housed in the College of Health and Human Services, which also includes the Department of Applied Physiology, Health and Clinical Sciences; the School of Nursing; and the School of Social Work.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development - Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of their academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member's discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession - All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Eligible candidates must have a doctoral degree in epidemiology or a related field by August 2026. Applicants must be eligible for appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Health Administration. Assistant Professor candidates are expected to present evidence of promise for contributing to the Department's research portfolio, obtaining external research funding, and teaching across the BSPH, MPH, and PhD degree programs.
Minimum Experience/Education
UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.
Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
Preferred candidates will have an MPH. The extent to which the candidate can contribute to the mission and vision of the Department will be considered. Candidates from all areas of Epidemiology will be considered. Applicants with research experience in cancer and other chronic diseases, infectious diseases, maternal and child health, health disparities, sexually transmitted diseases, and advanced epidemiologic methods, such as causal inference, are particularly encouraged to apply.
