DESCRIPTION

Under supervision, positions in this title serve in different capacities. As Pharmacy Technician, assists the pharmacist in the preparation of medications for patient use (oral and parenteral) according to established procedures; assist in the distribution of medications; performs computer order entry, record keeping, and billing functions; maintain inventory levels; Will perform assigned operational duties in a scheduled area and will assist pharmacists in completing medication orders and related distribution duties in the assigned areas. Assists the pharmacy department in the preparation of claims for reimbursement and obtaining authorizations for prescription medications dispensed from the department's outpatient pharmacies according to established procedures; performs assigned operational duties in a scheduled area.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Must have previous (retail) Pharmacy Tech experience of 2 - 5 years.

  • Pharmacy Technician License issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy.

  • Knowledge of pharmacy terminology and calculations.

  • Computer experience and accurate data entry skills.

  • Detail and organizational skills to sort, file and retrieve information. Ability to manage assigned workload within deadlines.

  • Ability to work in a self-directed work team environment and function effectively in a high-volume, multiple demand environment.

  • Have excellent communication and customer service skills with the ability to communicate clearly both verbally and in writing and be able to articulate complex ideas for all levels of audiences.

  • Be a self-starter who is accountable and requires minimal direction and supervision; a person who is open to new ideas; and a creative and flexible individual who is comfortable working in a large, complex organization. Possess the personal characteristics of professionalism, credibility, commitment to high standards, innovation, discriminating judgment and accountability.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Certified Pharmacy Technician.

  • Experience with Meds To Beds Program or equivalent.

  • At least 2 years experience with medication ordering and inventory management or equivalent.

  • 340b regulatory knowledge and background.

  • Bilingual: English/Spanish speaker.

  • Comfortable with public speaking and able to promote a justifiable position.

  • Flexible to address any pharmacy need that may arise, especially those that are unexpected or sudden.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $54,998 - $68,403 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $26.34 - $32.76

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
