Director, Technical Programs - Indirect Procurement

JOB OVERVIEW:

This position is responsible for leading enterprise-wide procurement transformation initiatives that integrate technology, category management, and advanced analytics. This leader will oversee the deployment of Procure-to-Pay (P2P) systems, drive strategic sourcing excellence through digital tools and AI insights, and ensure successful delivery of large-scale technical programs across the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Category Management & Strategic Sourcing
    • Lead global category management strategies across multiple spend areas-defining sourcing roadmaps, supplier segmentation, and commercial negotiation strategies.
    • Drive sourcing events (RFIs, RFPs, RFQs, e-auctions) from strategy through contract execution, ensuring value, compliance, and innovation.
    • Oversee supplier negotiations and contracting to secure favorable terms and long-term strategic partnerships.
    • Develop category playbooks and TCO (Total Cost of Ownership) models to optimize cost, performance, and risk across the supply base.
    • Align category strategies with enterprise goals, sustainability objectives, and financial targets.
  • Procure-to-Pay (P2P) Systems & Digital Enablement
    • Lead end-to-end deployment of Procure-to-Pay (P2P) platforms such as SAP Ariba, Coupa, or Oracle Cloud Procurement.
    • Manage cross-functional implementation teams-including IT, Finance, and Operations-to ensure seamless system integration and user adoption.
    • Define system requirements, process designs, and configuration standards to enable efficient purchase requisitioning, approval workflows, and automated invoicing.
    • Establish KPIs for P2P performance (e.g., cycle time, automation rates, on-time payment) and implement continuous improvement frameworks.
    • Champion digital procurement transformation, leveraging automation, workflow optimization, and supplier collaboration portals.
  • Technical Program & Project Management
    • Oversee complex technical programs integrating procurement systems, data analytics, and business process reengineering.
    • Manage project lifecycles-from concept and design through implementation and stabilization-ensuring delivery within scope, timeline, and budget.
    • Establish robust governance, reporting, and risk management processes across concurrent global initiatives.
    • Apply agile and hybrid program management methodologies to accelerate delivery and enhance stakeholder alignment.
    • Lead issue resolution, change management, and continuous improvement initiatives across program portfolios.
  • Analytics, AI, and Data Strategy
    • Utilize AI and machine learning to enhance spend visibility, supplier risk assessment, and demand forecasting.
    • Lead the design and implementation of predictive and prescriptive analytics models to inform sourcing and budgeting decisions.
    • Oversee creation of real-time dashboards and scorecards (Power BI, Tableau) to track procurement performance and savings realization.
    • Apply natural language processing (NLP) and text analytics for contract intelligence and supplier sentiment analysis.
    • Partner with data engineering teams to automate pipelines for spend, supplier, and transactional data.
  • Supplier Relationship & Risk Management
    • Develop and maintain strong partnerships with key suppliers, fostering innovation and operational excellence.
    • Implement structured supplier performance management frameworks using quantitative and qualitative KPIs.
    • Assess and mitigate risks related to financial stability, supply chain disruptions, and compliance.
    • Drive supplier innovation initiatives to enhance cost efficiency, sustainability, and digital maturity.
  • Leadership & Stakeholder Engagement
    • Lead high-performing, matrixed, global project teams across procurement, data analytics, and program delivery functions.
    • Influence executive leadership, business units, and technical stakeholders to align transformation strategies.
    • Foster a culture of accountability, continuous learning, and digital-first thinking.
    • Communicate complex technical and analytical concepts clearly across business and IT audiences.
    • Serve as executive sponsor for major technology and procurement transformation initiatives.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:

  • Proven track record in deploying Procure-to-Pay or Source-to-Pay systems (SAP Ariba, Coupa, Oracle, or equivalent).
  • Experience running RFPs, supplier negotiations, and e-auctions for multi-million-dollar categories.
  • Demonstrated success implementing AI/ML solutions in spend analytics, forecasting, or supplier risk modeling.
  • Strong understanding of ERP integration, workflow design, and data governance.

MINIMUM WORK EXPERIENCE:

Typically 12 or more years of increasing responsibility and complexity in terms of any applicable professional experience; 5 or more years of management experience.

PREFERRED EDUCATION:

Typically a Bachelor's Degree or global equivalent in related discipline. Master's degree or global equivalent a plus. PMP or Agile certification preferred.

TRAVEL / PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Travel typically less than 10%. Office environment. No special physical demands required.

The posted range for this position is $138,976-$178,932, which is the expected starting base salary range for an employee who is new to the role to fully proficient in the role. Many factors go into determining employee pay within the posted range including prior experience, current skills, location/labor market, internal equity, etc.

This position is eligible for a bonus not reflected in the posted range.
