This role will be part of the newly created Front End Manufacturing Technology Team for our Hand Tools Business Unit. You'll also be DISRUPTIVE through these duties and responsibilities:
- Research, develop, and implement new manufacturing processes and capital equipment to improve current throughput, scrap/rework reduction, reduce cost, improve quality and improve reliability.
- Research, develop, and implement new manufacturing processes and capital equipment to enable product and manufacturing innovation with robust cost and capability for mass production.
- Work with strategic suppliers to innovate manufacturing processes and capability to push the boundaries of product and manufacturing design
- Work directly with manufacturing cells to improve processes and reduce costs through capital/capacity projects, design change implementation, and transformational process changes.
- Develop, lead, and participate in engineering projects for operations, value engineering, vertical integration, and business development for accessories products. This role will provide engineering feasibility and support on high complexity projects.
- Perform manufacturing process related feasibility studies for continuous improvement of designs and product performance, throughput improvements, and capital planning.
- Conduct Make vs Buy analysis, frame up business case and able to present for business approval.
- Research and aid in the development of manufacturing processes & machine design solutions to enhance our processes and operations.
- Perform a variety of calculation and software-aided analyses to prove process reliability, capability, and sustainability.
- Identify and work with outside technical resources on specific projects and/or products when appropriate, including but not limited to, universities, consultants, Research and Development, suppliers, and customers.
- Draw preliminary sketches and prepare layout and detail drawings, using standard computer-assisted design software NX, Solidworks.
- Schedule, develop agendas, facilitate, and document project meetings.
- Track project schedules to ensure adherence to timelines; keep team and management informed of project issues. Make regular formal presentations regarding project status.
- Provide clear engineering information to project leaders, management and the global engineering team through PowerPoint and graphical tools. Data must be presented in a manner that facilitates effective decisions.
- Work cross-functionally and globally with operations, engineering, quality and suppliers to establish appropriate specifications and deliver conforming products.
- Establish machine run-off specifications with the project team.
- Evaluate product designs relative to material selection, components, coatings, and manufacturability; and offer improvement ideas.
Job Requirements: Bachelor's degree or equivalent degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Engineering Mechanics, Mechanical/Manufacturing Engineering Technology or related engineering field. A successful applicant must have 10 - 15 years of direct manufacturing or advanced manufacturing experience in the following:
- Experience with multiple manufacturing processes including but not limited to forging, stamping, machining, heat treating, injection molding and automated assembly
- Manufacturing process related activities such as tool adnd fixture design, metal working, welding, brazing, and grinding.
- Manufacturing and assembly processes including design and manufacturing hurdles that must be overcome to manufacture product.
- Project leadership in Value Engineering, such as design changes, new process investigation or product and process improvement.
- Computer aided design such as Unigraphics (NX8.5), SolidWorkds, NX and AutoCad
- Quality related analysis tools such as MiniTab, Gage R&R, Capability Studies, Tolerance Stack-ups and deviation analysis.
- Process evaluation tools such as Design of Experiments (DOE), statistical data analysis, risk analysis, flow layout.
- Value Analysis principles and Design for Manufacturing & Assembly (DFMA) methodology.
- Various cost drivers associated with materials; labor & overhead.
Ability to travel domestically and internationally 5% - 10% of the time required.
