Work Schedule:

This is a 100% FTE salaried position scheduled to typically work Monday through Friday, day shift hours, however some off hours or weekends may be required. Hours may vary based on the operational needs of the department. You will primarily work at American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH) and University Hospital with occasional travel to other UW Health facilities.

Pay:

  • Pay range is based on a full-time (100%) position.
  • Salary is prorated based on FTE.
  • Relocation assistance may be available for qualified applicants.

Join our team as a Nursing Education Specialist at our nationally known American Family Children's Hospital (AFCH)!

We are seeking a passionate MSN or DNP prepared Registered Nurse (RN) to lead onboarding and ongoing professional development for nursing staff at AFCH. This role focuses on pediatric emergency medicine, pediatric/neonatal transport, and pediatric diagnostic procedures-critical areas that support exceptional care for children and families across the Midwest.

In this role, you will:

  • Facilitate education for nursing staff in key areas:
    • Pediatric Emergency Department: 11-bed dedicated pediatric ED at AFCH in Madison, WI.
    • Pediatric & Neonatal Transport: Emergency and planned critical care transport (ground and air) for patients with complex medical and surgical needs, including critical neurological disorders, pulmonary disease, cardiac anomalies, organ transplantation, and multi-system organ failure. Interventions may include ECMO, high-frequency ventilation, inhaled nitric oxide, and active cooling.
    • Diagnostic Therapy Center (DTC): Outpatient diagnostic and treatment services such as infusions, chemotherapy, injections, and sedation for testing and procedures.
  • Assess, plan, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive educational programs.
  • Collaborate across departments on curriculum and program development.
  • Support hospital-wide initiatives and serve as a resource and subject matter expert.
  • Complete assigned Nursing Education Specialist (NES) responsibilities based on needs of the department
  • Bring your expertise: For this position, three years of pediatric nursing experience including pediatric ED, peds/neonatal transport and peds procedural nursing is highly preferred as well as experience in nursing education.

Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Required
  • Master's Degree in Nursing Education Preferred
Work Experience
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience Required
  • 3 years of relevant clinical nursing experience with position specific patient population Preferred
  • 3 years of experience providing orientation and education for nursing staff in clinical setting Preferred
  • Relevant experience in primary and specialty clinic settings for NES candidates working in ambulatory areas Preferred
Licenses & Certifications
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of WI or holds a license issued by a jurisdiction that has adopted the nurse licensure compact Upon Hire Required
  • Basic Life Support BLS/CPR certification Upon Hire Required
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification within 6 months Required
  • National certification in relevant specialty Preferred
