Overview

The Area Manager works closely with the District Manager to coordinate and direct overall plant operations within a set territory. Primary responsibilities include managing and coordinating day-to-day operations of area plants to achieve performance and customer service standards and maximize sales and earnings.

Responsibilities



  • Work with district manager to accomplish the following:

    • Pricing of gasoline, diesel fuel and propane at all locations, including special prices and any allowable discounts
    • Participate in the preparation of annual budgets for sales, expenses, and additions to fixed assets at plant(s)
    • Submit sales goals for propane, refined oils, motor oils and greases
    • Ensure area plant employees are safely handling and dispensing of petroleum products, especially propane


  • Work with all employees to assure the following aspects of each plant's business activity are accomplished:

    • Daily sales reporting and deposits
    • Work with Service team to ensure timely installation of all customer propane and refined oil storage tanks
    • Work with Service team to provide service, leak testing and inspections of propane systems
    • Timely follow-up on customer complaints
    • Ensure that no sales are made to customers with past due balances
    • Maintain accurate and complete records of all fixed assets, especially equipment loaned to customers


  • Work with the Operations Manager and Customer Service Representatives to assure that deliveries are made in a timely manner
  • Plan and direct the work of all personnel that are within this manager's area of responsibility, training and developing employees, evaluating performance, enforcing company policies and safety requirements, monitoring productivity, resolving conflict in a timely manner and taking disciplinary action when necessary.
  • Monitor and make recommendations for the employment, discipline, wage adjustments, and termination of personnel including conducting interviews and making hiring recommendations for managers, drivers, service technicians, and customer service representatives.
  • Assist with the paperwork for compliance with all DOT and state certification for applicable employees
  • Work closely with delegates and keep them informed concerning local plant operations and total company operations
  • Assist district sales manager in planning and conducting local annual bulk plant meetings
  • Attend annual meetings of other MFA units
  • Assure safe working environment is available to all employees and that all federal, state and local codes are being honored
  • Assist with establishing individual and team goals for the department, as well as establishing personal goals with senior leadership, ensuring goals are attainable and trackable
  • Ensure employees follow posted work schedules and adhere to proper clocking procedures to accurately reflect hours worked
  • All MFA Oil employees are expected to know and adhere to company and position specific policies and procedures. While this job description contains the primary duties of the position, employees may be expected to perform other duties as assigned


Job Requirements



  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Bachelor's Degree with a preferred focus in agriculture or business management, or equivalent combination of education and experience totaling 4 years
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability and willingness to obtain a Class A or Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with tanker, HAZMAT, and air brake endorsements within the first 90 days of employment, and maintain all Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements per the vehicle requirements
  • Ability to pass in person training and MFA Oil Company Record of Road test requiring operation of both manual and automatic transmission vehicles within 90 days of employment
  • Ability and willingness to become propane (CETP) certified as determined by the state(s) you will service within 90 days of employment
  • Strong communication skills including the ability to train others and run regional user group meetings
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Ability to consistently operate a computer and other office productivity machinery including Microsoft Office products
  • Capability to learn new concepts and use technical materials
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations to make change, complete reports, and account for products
  • Ability to visually observe and inspect items and work environment for regular job responsibilities and safety concerns
  • Physical ability to remain in a stationary position (standing and/or sitting) for up to nine hours per shift
  • Physical ability to move and position self to move and retrieve products and supplies from shelves under counters or stacks of inventory weighing up to 100 pounds
  • Physical ability to lift 25-pound boxes to a height of 3-4 feet and load them into trucks
  • Physical ability to ascend and descend ladders to deliver fuel
  • Vision, hearing, speech, and ability to detect odors
  • Ability to consistently drive and work in outdoor weather conditions
  • Ability to safely operate automatic and manual transmission vehicles
  • Ability and willingness to work with hazardous materials
  • Travel is expected up to 30% with occasional overnights to training or meetings
  • Availability to work a rotating on-call schedule, holidays, weekends, and after regular business as needed
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to exchange accurate information verbally and in written form with the customers of MFA Oil in English
  • Ability to meet company requirements including successful pre-employment drug screening, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR), criminal background check, and MFA Oil Company road test
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States
