Responsibilities

We currently have a great opportunity available for a Medical Affairs Senior Director. The Senior Director, Medical Affairs is a highly strategic leadership role designed to accelerate Sysmex's growth across the full product portfolio and emerging markets. This role integrates seniorlevel medical affairs leadership, business development support, customer-facing and industry representation, and portfolio strategy to ensure clinical credibility, commercial success, and global alignment.

With a primary focus on Neurology and Immunology, and expanding support across PointofCare, New Markets, and selected core platforms (including Hemostasis), the role serves as a trusted advisor to executive leadership, commercial organization, global marketing, and external partners. This individual will translate deep clinical and scientific expertise into actionable strategy, enabling successful product launches, partnerships, evidence generation, and sustained clinical adoption.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Clinical & Portfolio Strategy Leadership - Define and execute an integrated clinical and medical strategy for priority portfolios, including Neurology, Immunology, PointofCare, Hemostasis, and emerging market initiatives, ensuring alignment with Sysmex's overall business objectives.
2. Business Development & Due Diligence Support - Provide senior medical and scientific leadership and support for business development activities, including opportunity assessment, clinical differentiation, evidence strategy, and medical due diligence for partnerships and key strategic opportunities.
3. Global Collaboration & Alignment - Serve as a key clinical strategy liaison with Sysmex global (SCorp) and regional organizations to align medical priorities, portfolio strategies, and best practices across geographies.
4. Clinical Evidence & Value Generation - Guide the development of clinical evidence strategies that support regulatory submissions, claims expansion, guideline inclusion, and clinical adoption across targeted franchises.
5. Key Opinion Leader (KOL) & External Engagement - Build and maintain highvalue relationships with global and regional KOLs, professional societies, and academic partners to position Sysmex as a trusted scientific leader.
6. Partnership & Alliance Leadership - Provide medical and scientific oversight for strategic partnerships (e.g., Neurology, Immunology, POC, and novel diagnostics partners), ensuring clinical alignment, effective collaboration, and optimized market impact.
7. Commercial & Field Medical Enablement - Partner with Sales, Marketing, and Applications teams to deliver clinical support, onlabel medical messaging, education, and training that supports product launches and ongoing commercial success.
8. PointofCare & New Markets Strategy - Support the clinical and strategic development of Sysmex's PointofCare and New Markets initiatives, ensuring strong value propositions and clinically relevant use cases. Leverage key clinical and industry relationships to support new areas of investment.
9. Executive Advisory & Thought Leadership - Act as a senior advisor to Sysmex executive leadership, providing insights on clinical trends, competitive dynamics, emerging science, and unmet clinical needs to inform strategic decisionmaking.
10. Other duties as assigned.

Percentage of Travel: 20-30% including internationally

Physical Risk: Regular exposure to risk that may require alertness, but with minimal precautions.



Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree required
  • MD, PhD, or other healthcare professional/advanced scientific degree
  • Extensive 7-10 years of relevant post-graduate clinical /medical experience with a focus on clinical applications, medical Affairs, or strategic clinical commercialization.
    • Minimum 5-7 years diagnostic industry experience (Scientific Affairs / Clinical Affairs / Regulatory Affairs)
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain scientific credibility while being commercially supportive, and to communicate scientific results and effectively respond to data queries from KOLs, health care providers, and other external stakeholders
  • Board certification is preferred
  • Ability to bridge clinical science with commercial and strategic objectives.
  • Strong executive presence with the ability to influence senior leaders and external stakeholders.
  • Deep understanding of FDA regulations, clinical trials, CLIA and CAP environments, and diagnostic industry standards.
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills, including scientific presentations, executive briefings, and external engagement.
  • Strategic, entrepreneurial mindset with comfort operating in newly created or evolving roles.
  • Ability to lead a group of scientific personnel
  • Ability to influence others on scientifically challenging information
  • English Required
  • Spanish and/or Portuguese preferred
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and decision-making: Demonstrated ability to navigate and lead through change and ambiguity, effectively adapting strategies and approaches in dynamic environments. Capacity to take sound decisions with incomplete information, manage multiple competing priorities, and guide teams through.

This job requires satisfaction of the credentialing requirements of Sysmex's customers, including hospitals and other healthcare facilities, which generally includes proof of current vaccinations for measles, mumps, rubella, varicella (chicken pox), and COVID-19.

The salary range for this role is $237,300-372,900. Within this range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. The total compensation package for this position also includes a choice of health care plan (medical, vision, and dental insurance), an incentive plan, car allowance, paid time off, parental leave, bereavement leave and a 401(K) for all eligible employees.
