Pantheon Data (a Kenific Holding company) is a private, small business based in the Washington, DC, area. Pantheon Data was founded in 2011, initially providing acquisition and supply chain management services to the US Coast Guard. DHA Overview

The Defense Health Agency (DHA) is a joint, integrated Combat Support Agency that enables the Army, Navy, and Air Force medical services to provide a medically ready force and a ready medical force to Combatant Commands during peacetime and wartime. Established to enhance the delivery of integrated, affordable, and high-quality health services, the DHA supports Military Health System (MHS) beneficiaries and drives the integration of clinical and business processes across the MHS. The agency plays a pivotal role in ensuring military personnel and their families receive comprehensive healthcare, thus maintaining operational readiness and overall force health protection.

Position Overview

Pantheon Data is seeking a Data Engineer with a strong background in designing and implementing data-centric technical solutions to support the Defense Health Agency (DHA). The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with data integration, migration, and transformation pipelines, preferably in healthcare or federal environments, and a willingness to quickly adapt and learn new technologies. This role will directly support DHA's modernization initiatives by migrating and integrating data from legacy health IT systems into secure, cloud-first architectures. The Data Engineer must be able to communicate clearly with both technical peers and non-technical stakeholders, such as program managers and clinical staff, to ensure data solutions meet mission objectives.

Responsibilities



  • Conduct data profiling, quality assessments, and validation of relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL) to define mapping rules and support DHA data governance.
  • Design and develop ETL pipelines to support data integration and migration from legacy systems (including health and HR systems) into modern platforms such as Salesforce, AWS GovCloud, and Advana-aligned data environments.
  • Support the development of authoritative data repositories and data lakes to enable interoperability and analytics across DHA's enterprise health IT ecosystem.
  • Work collaboratively within a growing engineering team to build and sustain scalable, secure, and resilient technical solutions that support DHA's enterprise data strategy.
  • Partner with technical leads and program stakeholders to design and deliver solutions that align with DHA's mission, exceed customer expectations, and comply with DoD standards (HIPAA, FedRAMP, DoD IL).


Required Skills and Experience



  • 5 years professional, hands-on experience in a data engineering role.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
  • Expert-level SQL, relational databases.
  • Experience with ETL or data migration.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to interact clearly and succinctly in peer review and design sessions.
  • Willing to learn/contribute meaningfully across technical areas of our projects.
  • Working knowledge of CI/CD methodology and related tools for database development.
  • Working knowledge of Agile Scrum methodology.
  • Detail-oriented, self-motivated, and organized
  • Ability to work effectively remotely in cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and produce quality work.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Suite software including Outlook, Word, Excel, SharePoint, and PowerPoint.


Preferred Skills and Experience



  • Strong experience with Python.
  • Experience integrating data from SalesForce.
  • Experience writing ETL source-target documentation.
  • Experience with legacy ETL tools such as Informatica and SSIS.
  • Experience with cloud-based ETL tools such as DBT and Airflow.
  • AWS (Amazon Web Services) and/or Microsoft Azure. Certification(s) a plus.
  • Experience with cloud-hosted databases, either AWS or Azure.
  • Experience using big data technologies (Hadoop, Hive, HBase, Spark, EMR, etc.)
  • Experience with AI/ML a plus.


Clearance Requirements

U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Work Location: Remote - Falls Church, VA

Compensation

The salary range for this position is $115,000 - $130,000. This is not, however, a guarantee of compensation or salary. Rather, salary will be set based on experience, geographic location and possibly contractual requirements and could fall outside of this range.
