Symetra has an exciting opportunity to join our team as part of our 2026 Law & Compliance Summer Associate Internship Program!

About the Internship

The Law & Compliance Internship is designed to provide exposure and experience to many facets of the legal and compliance processes within Symetra Financial and Symetra Investment Management. This internship program will help prepare the intern for a future career in a legal or compliance position involving the insurance or financial sectors by providing practical on-the-job experience, mentoring relationships, and professional networking opportunities. You will be part of the team's daily operations and will have the opportunity to work across the department on a variety of projects.

The successful candidate will be a quick and curious learner who enjoys conducting research, preparing written analyses, and appreciates the importance of details. This internship position will be fully remote for the summer of 2026; the intern does not need to be located near a Symetra office.

Your education, experience, and skills



  • Current enrollment in law school with a GPA of 3.0 or higher preferred (membership in law review and/or mock trial a plus)
  • Non-law school graduate program experience or enrollment in an undergraduate program will also be considered with demonstrated interest in legal or compliance topics (depending on the position)
  • Critical attention to detail, must be able to prioritize, organize, and plan effectively
  • Self-motivated with the abilities to multitask, problem-solve, and meet deadlines
  • Ability to act independently as the primary owner of projects, analyses, and processes while working cross-functionally within the immediate work group
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and writing skills
  • Effectively convey pertinent information
  • Accept and adapt readily to changes, including changes in organizational structure, strategies, business processes, and procedures, etc.
  • Follow through on tasks to ensure full resolution
  • Interest in privacy, financial crimes, fraud, and anti-money laundering (AML) is a plus



Positions and Potential Responsibilities

Focus on Symetra Financial Legal and Compliance needs

Compliance Project Examples:



  • Work with the Compliance team in support of daily operations that may include but not limited to the drafting or editing of policies and procedures, compiling analysis for regulatory filings, aiding with policy and procedure testing, drafting or editing committee presentations, and or aggregating data needed for other compliance related functions. Assist on other Compliance based projects that assist the Chief Compliance Officer (CCO) in demonstrating that the compliance controls are functioning as designed to ensure the firm is adhering to its requirements under federal securities laws



Legal Project Examples:



  • Work closely with the business and product teams and gain experience in providing transactional support, litigation research and drafting, product development, privacy and claims support, and related product and business assistance.
  • Review and summary of deal documentation, monitoring and updating regulatory and business trackers, and attending and participating in cross-departmental meetings.

Compensation:

Hourly Range: $22.00-25.00

Work Authorization

Employer work visa sponsorship and support are not provided for this role. Applicants must be currently authorized to work in the United States at hire and must maintain authorization to work in the United States throughout their employment with our company.
