The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

Job Overview:

Under the supervision of the Respiratory Therapy Site Manager/Respiratory Care Coordinator or designee, the Pulmonary Function Technologist is responsible for the safe and efficient completion of Pulmonary Function Studies and pH/Blood Gas Analysis.

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Graduate of an Accredited Respiratory Therapy Program.
  • Knowledge and clinical skills necessary to provide all services available through the Pulmonary Function Laboratory
  • Ability to follow directions accurately, organize and accomplish work as assigned

Preferred:

  • Two to three years of Adult critical care, neonatal/pediatric experience preferred.

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Certified or Registered Pulmonary Function Technologist as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care
  • Respiratory Therapist CRT/RRT with skills equivalent to Pulmonary Function Technologist to perform testing as defined by the National Board for Respiratory Care.
  • Active New Jersey State License to practice Respiratory Therapy
  • BLS certification required (American Heart Association)

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Full Time
  • Flexible 8- and 12-Hour shift 7a to 4pm
  • PFT scheduled 2 times / week
  • Additional Responsibilities include inpatient Respiratory Therapist staff one weekend /month
  • 2 Major Holidays One winter one Summer.

Essential Functions:

  • Ensures that all pulmonary function tests are performed in accordance with a physicians orders and departmental policy and procedures
  • Responsible for setting up, calibration and quality control of all equipment in the pulmonary function laboratory.
  • Ensure the generation of reports is done in a timely and accurate manner as related to the Pulmonary Function Laboratory
  • Ensures proper decontamination and sterilization of pulmonary function equipment
  • Ensures efficient scheduling of pulmonary function studies
  • Maintains daily and monthly statistics and reports for Performance review
  • Reports to Manager or Pulmonary Physician any incidents or situations which require immediate action.
  • Assists manager in maintenance of department policy as they pertain to the Pulmonary Function Laboratory
  • Maintain work habits and interpersonal skills that reflect the Mission and Vision Values of the organization.
  • Record pertinent information of patient assessment and response to therapy in the medical record according to Policy and Procedure.
  • Performs arterial blood gas sampling and analysis according to department policy and procedure manual.
  • Perform analysis of pH /blood gas quality controls.
  • Responds to Code Blue performs CPR as indicated.
  • Conduct intradepartmental and interdepartmental in-service education programs as directed
  • Assumes responsibility for professional growth and development
  • Meets all requirements of a Respiratory Therapist and assist in performing direct patient care when needed- reassess staffing/patient workload.
  • In the absence of the Supervisor/Site Manager- Respiratory care, assumes responsibility for departmental management functions and communicates issues to ADN/Administrator on Call.
