JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS Penn State is searching for a full time Maintenance Worker (General) B (Mont Alto) - Grade 8 to join the team. Duties include:
- Remove brush, leaves, grass, clippings, paper and debris from grounds, walks, parking areas and other University property
- Plant, transplant, weed, spray and cultivate trees, grass, shrubbery, etc.
- Fertilize, mow and seed lawns as required
- Sweep driveways, parking areas, etc.; clean catch basins and road drains
- Dig holes, trenches, postholes; clean drainage lines, etc.
- Paint benches, fences, guard rails, shelves, sign posts, fire hydrants, refuse containers, traffic lines and interior areas such as walls, doors, etc.
- Operate mechanical spray painting equipment
- Backwash swimming pool filters, as scheduled
- Maintain proper chemical level in Brominator and clean, as scheduled
- Remove snow and ice as directed; spread chemicals, sand, cinders and other anti-skid material on walks, roadway and parking areas
- Maintain athletic areas; mark athletic fields; erect goal posts, bleachers, etc.
- Operate trucks, tractors, power grounds equipment, power saws, pneumatic hammers, bowling lanes conditioner machine, vacuum cleaner, swimming pool cleaning equipment, etc.
- Perform minor maintenance on vehicles and other equipment such as pinsetters, including inspecting water level and antifreeze level; checking and maintaining proper air pressure; cleaning, greasing, oiling (and making minor adjustments); sharpening blades, etc.
- Report needed repairs on or about building or grounds to supervisor
- Operate University vehicles as required
- Record maintenance performed on various equipment which includes mileage, date, hours, etc., at time of performance
- Perform minor mechanical repairs in and about buildings and grounds, i.e., replace switch plates, door closures, check fire extinguishers, etc.
- Unlock and lock building entrances and room doors; close and lock windows; turn out lights; replace burned out light bulbs
- Load and unload trucks, check shipments received against invoice for accuracy; inform supervisor of damage or missing items; place shipment in designated storage area
- Assist in setting up designated areas for various functions as required
- Assist Maintenance Personnel in mechanical and building maintenance as assigned for construction, repair and alterations to equipment and facilities
- Move furniture, equipment and material as required
- Clean assigned areas of buildings including hallways, stairs, offices, classrooms, laboratories, toilet rooms, stockrooms, lounges, utility rooms, etc., using methods and materials specified by the supervisor
- Mop, sweep, clean and wax floors
- Operate various types of janitorial equipment, i.e., floor buffing machines, vacuum cleaners, etc.
- Perform minor maintenance work such as installing shelves, blackboards, fire extinguishers, broken tile, broken glass, etc.
- Repair and replace hardware on doors, windows, screens, cabinets, etc.
- Ease and adjust doors, windows, etc., replace or repair window sash, cords, weights, openers, etc.
- Occasionally direct the work of part-time employees as required
Job Requirements: Requires the use of simple writing, adding, subtracting, whole numbers and the carrying out of instructions; and the use of fixed gauges and direct reading instruments and devices in which interpretation is not required. Must currently hold or be able to obtain a Category 23 PA Public Pesticide Applicator`s license. 6 to 9 months of effective experience. Work Schedule:7:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. Days Off:Saturday, Sunday

Pennsylvania Pesticide Applicator Certification with Categories 6, 7, and 23 - Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture
BACKGROUND CHECKS/CLEARANCES Employment with the University will require successful completion of background check(s) in accordance with University policies. This position requires that you operate a motor vehicle as a part of your job duties. A valid driver's license and successful completion of a motor vehicle records check will be required in addition to standard background checks.
