We are seeking a strong-willed and results driven Safety & Environmental Specialist - 2nd Shift to join our team. RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Conduct new hire orientation according to the established procedure.
- Conduct audiograms, base and annual.
- Treat employee injuries and illnesses and generate OSHA 300/300A, Monthly Activity, and Daily Register Logs.
- Assist and communicate with the Safety/Environmental Manager on all risk management activities, ensuring they are informed of any actions taken that may affect compliance or safety performance.
- Conduct periodic safety meetings, including selection and preparation of materials and conduct safety training as may be required and approved by the Safety/Environmental Manager.
- Coordinate with insurance carrier(s) on worker compensation claims.
- Prepare and file applicable forms and reports for employees on the job injury
- Monitor first aid and medical supplies regularly and always maintain an adequate supply.
- Follow up on employee injuries and schedule doctor appointment for on-the-job injuries
- Teach safe work methods and stimulate interest and participation in the safety program
- Regularly inspect various departments, tools, and equipment per inspection procedures
- Monitor and witness work procedures and practices for hazardous conditions.
- Investigate and report employee, vehicle, and property damage or contractor accidents
- Follow up on employee injuries and generate incident and severity statistics and charts as needed.
- Conduct special inspections as may be required by Federal or State regulations such as inspections of cranes, hoists, cables, and fire equipment.
- Instruct special classes such as first aid, CPR, etc. as directed by the Safety/Environmental Manager.
- Monitor and inspect contractors working on Company premises for compliance with safety regulations.
- Maintain open communication with the Safety/Environmental Manager to ensure authorization and endorsement of activities resulting from personal initiative.
- Assist the Human Resources Department in activities authorized and approved by the Safety/Environmental Manager or as directed by the Director of Human Resources.
- Ensure a secure facility through controlling access at points of entry and by maintaining an up-to-date key and lock system.
- Prepare and provide safety training materials through thorough research of the relevant topics to increase safety awareness, knowledge, and general education. Schedule and conduct safety training and other meetings as required.
- Investigate safety incidents and/or accidents in conjunction with involved departments to determine the cause and develop solutions to prevent future similar incidents and follow up to see that corrective action occurs.
- Maintain pertinent safety and medical records, i.e., employee health records, audiograms, OSHA logs, forklift certification, etc. Answer/assist employees with general health issues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Must know and comply with the Komatsu Worldwide Code of Business Conduct, KAC Code of Conduct, Hensley Environmental Policies, Hensley Safety Policies, and Hensley Quality Policies. Requirements:
- 2-year associate's degree from college or technical school and minimum of 1 year of experience.
- Bilingual English/Spanish required
- First aid and CPR certification, licensed health care professional preferred.
- Teaching, training, presentation experience
- Good communication and people skills
- Basic mechanical understanding.
- Availability for occasional Saturday work, based on business needs
- Computer literate, Microsoft office proficiency
