Position Description:

The University of Iowa's College of Dentistry is conducting a search for the Department Executive Officer (DEO)/Chair for the Department of Orthodontics. This is a full-time clinical or tenure-track faculty at the full Professor level. This position reports to the Dean of the College of Dentistry.

Major responsibilities include:





  • provide strong leadership to the department in the areas of teaching, scholarship and service;
  • collaborate with collegiate leadership and administration;
  • support faculty development and mentorship;
  • maintain close cooperation with other departments;
  • maintain an independent or collaborative research/scholarship program;
  • actively participate in service activities at the collegiate, regional, and national levels;
  • maintain an active involvement in the clinical/didactic teaching efforts of the department in Orthodontics at the pre/postdoctoral levels; and
  • actively participate in the departmental faculty practice plan.

Successful candidates will be required to self-disclose any misconduct history or pending research misconduct investigation including but not limited to sexual misconduct in prior employment and provide a related release and will be subject to a criminal background and credential check.



Education Requirement:


  • D.D.S./D.M.D. or equivalent;
  • completion of an CODA/CDAC-accredited advanced training program in Orthodontics;


Required Qualifications:


  • Board Certification or Eligibility in Orthodontics;
  • record of effective teaching and mentoring of faculty and/or students;
  • record of hypothesis/protocol-driven research and/or scholarly activity;
  • record of success in acquiring extramural grant support;
  • record of relevant administrative and leadership experience; and
  • professional experience working effectively with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.




Desirable Qualifications:


  • Ph.D. or equivalent;
  • clinical practice experience;
  • ability to foster collaborative interactions among faculty from different departments and colleges;
  • demonstrated ability to develop new research initiatives; and
  • demonstrated experience working effectively in an interdisciplinary environment.
