Posting Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Lead Certified Central Sterile Processing Technician for the Eric B. Chandler Health Center at the Robert Wood Johnson Medical School.

The Lead Central Sterile Technician will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of Central Sterilization. Maintains all aspects of sterilization procedures related to dental and medical instruments and supplies associated with patient care within the various clinical operators. Handles assigned projects and ensures all the needs of Central Sterilization are met. Provides work direction and guidance.

Among the key duties of this position are the following:

  • Operates and monitors steam autoclaves and other sterilizing equipment. Keeps records of loads completed, items in loads, and maintenance procedures performed.
  • Decontaminates and sterilizes instruments, equipment, and assembles self-sealing sterilization pouches, wraps, sterilizers cassettes, trays and instruments. Follows proper Standard Precautions while in decontamination and sterilization areas.
  • Monitors biological and chemical wash solution to ensure quality and consistency for decontamination of instruments and equipment.
  • Ensures that sterile processes are maintained and use effective infection control practices.
  • Verifies that equipment functions properly, requisitions for equipment maintenance, repair or replacement, and removes defective equipment. Remove defective instruments from circulation.
  • Assists with maintaining established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, and quality improvement, safety and environmental and infection control standards.

Minimum Education and Experience
  • Two (2) years of experience in a health care, medical or dental setting or a closely related setting using sterile procedures.
Certifications/Licenses
  • New Jersey Central Service Certification is required for this position.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of decontamination, sterilization, assembly, packing and monitoring of instrumentation.
