Posting Type: Open Competitive Work Type: Full-Time Nature of Work: This is inspection and enforcement work in securing compliance with the laws governing minimum housing standards, and the condemnation of structures not in compliance. This inspection work will also include enforcement of municipal codes and ordinances as it relates to zoning, drainage, grading, dumping, and fill authorizations, salvage dealers, and other related codes. Employees in this class exercise independent judgment and work is reviewed through written or oral reports and field visits by a supervisor. Education and Experience: The knowledge, skills, and abilities may be acquired through, but are not limited to, the following combination of education and/or experience. Bachelors degree in architecture, construction management, engineering, or a related field OR high school diploma or its equivalent and five (5) years of experience in housing construction or rehabilitation inspection. Special Qualifications: Must be able to transport oneself or to coordinate transportation to work sites throughout the city during the course of the work day. Pay Range: $27.68 with step increases to $35.53 Hourly Benefits: Forty-hour work week. Paid leave per year: twelve days vacation; eighteen days sick; and fourteen holidays. Examination Information: The examination will consist of a structured interview which will be scheduled at a later date. The structured interview is designed to assess job-related knowledge, skills, and abilities for this position. The final eligibility list will be assembled from those candidates achieving a passing score of 60% on the structured interview (100% weight). Veteran Points: To claim five (5) points for veteran's preference, you must submit proof of service (such as a DD-214) that includes the date of induction, date of honorable separation, and Social Security number. (You must have completed more than 180 consecutive days of active duty.) To receive an additional five (5) points credit for disability, you must submit proof of eligibility from the United States Department of Veterans Affairs dated within the last 12 months. This information must be submitted to the Human Resources Department by February 3, 2026.
