Job Title: Principal Program Manager

Mercury is an approved company for the SkillBridge Program under Dept. of Defense Instruction 1322.29. This program is an opportunity for transitioning service members to gain valuable civilian work experience through an individual internship during their last 6 months of service, for up to 180 days. Mercury SkillBridge is open to all ranks and experience levels provided they meet the minimum requirements for the position listed below. SkillBridge participants are not eligible for compensation from Mercury, as they continue to receive military compensation and benefits as Active-duty service members. Job Description: As a Principal Program Manager, you will be responsible for the performance of one or multiple programs, with an emphasis on new development/production. This role requires a broad understanding of all aspects of a program, from ideation to production as well as in-service support. Customer-facing, you will have great business acumen, making judicious decisions to achieve customer satisfaction while successfully executing your programs.



In this role, you will lead highly diverse cross functional teams composed of contracts, program planning, finance, operations, and engineering, to develop next-generation mission critical display solutions.



You will be a part of the Displays & Networking (D&N) Line of Business, a leading provider of safety-certifiable avionics and mission-critical display solutions located in Gulf Breeze, FL. Products and solutions include smart, rugged, interactive, high-definition display technology optimized for the low-light, multi-angle viewing requirements of cockpits and armored vehicles. Mercury Systems is an agile team focused on delivering innovative, high-quality products to their customers on time and on budget.



As a Principal Program Manager, you will be responsible for:



  • Develop plans for the execution of Customers and internal programs, including schedules and estimates
  • Executes Programs to scope, schedule, cost (development and products), and quality over their full lifecycle, by internal processes and contractual obligations, for customers worldwide
  • Identify and manage scope changes through their approval and execution
  • Ensure on-time delivery of deliverables (documentation and products)
  • Perform Risks and Opportunities Management, including definition and execution of action plans for risks mitigation to prevent adverse effects, and escalate issues promptly
  • Provide details of resources required for successful programs execution
  • Respond to Request for Proposals (RFPs), coordinate and develop proposals and related documentation, including schedules, estimates, compliance matrices, programmatic volume, and bid review material
  • Create Statements of Work and perform Sub-Contract management, as required
  • Present Programs status to the leadership team, weekly and monthly, including reporting on Programs' KPIs and critical path
  • Point of Contact for Customers, develop and execute action plans for Customers and Organization satisfaction, including problems solving, obsolescence management, and in-service support
  • Contributes to and lead processes and tools improvements and deployment
  • Conduct internal audits, as required
  • Team with Operations, Engineering, and Business Development to ensure that all are informed and involved in decisions affecting their areas
  • Manage all customer expectations and communications professionally
  • Responsible for Programs P&L, ensuring budgeted Programs margins are met or exceeded
  • Work with existing customers to determine needs, and requirements for follow-on/new business opportunities, direct the preparation of proposals, business plans, proposal work statements, and specifications to meet those needs



Length of training and learning objectives: Structured for a 12-week SkillBridge Internship. The official onboarding, training and instruction period of business practices curriculum, operational and regulatory policies, as well as product offerings will constitute the first portion of your internship (weeks 1-4). The remaining majority (weeks 5-11) will be implementation of your training, acting as a more autonomous intern in preparation for taking on your role as a civilian employee. The final week (week 12) will constitute a wrap-up of your internship.



Each week is a 40-hour work and each day contains a 1-hour lunch break. During this internship, your training will include instruction and review of all Mercury Systems' product and service offerings and capabilities, and preparation to be able to represent Mercury Systems knowledgeably and professionally in your workplace endeavors. These instructions will be in addition to your direct training and instruction regarding your Principal Program Manager fellowship responsibilities.



Internship Onboarding & Training (Weeks 1 - 2): Instructional mode will be a combination of in-person classroom style instruction and walk-through demonstrations with your supervisor and other temporary mentors as assigned.



Mercury Systems will brief you on their history as a leader in making trusted, secure mission-critical technologies profoundly more accessible to the aerospace and defense industries. They are optimized for customer and mission success, with their innovative solutions powering more than 300 critical aerospace and defense programs. Additionally, you will be educated on their company culture and vision, which includes a focus on Innovation that Matters as they continue to focus their specialization in engineering, adapting and manufacturing new solutions purpose-built to meet the industry's current and emerging high-tech needs.



You will also become a subject matter expert in the topics of products and service offerings that Mercury Systems provides to their customers in order to be able to proficiently manage multiple business development programs congruently for the D&N team internally, as well


as externally in regard to ensuring high-level customer program support and service, to thereby ensure mutual company success and customer satisfaction.



Mercury Systems will give you access to all information normally available to other employees of a similar position. This will allow you to become familiar with the company's unique value proposition to its customers, its assets and its products that are available to you in your workplace efforts as a member of the D&N team.



Additionally, Mercury Systems will provide a learning environment for familiarizing yourself with company and regulatory compliance standards as well as business best practices to ensure successful task and project endeavors taken on throughout your internship. This will be completed through discussions with your supervisor and other department management, in-person classroom style instruction and demonstrations of these standards and practices.



As your services and product offering knowledge develops, you will become better able to perform the duties of a Principal Program Manager. These responsibilities will broaden your current skillset across a spectrum of business development and operational requirements, which will include:



  • Program Management
  • Product Lifecycle Management
  • Operational Reports & Documentation
  • Risk & Opportunity Analysis
  • Internal Audit & Communications
  • Budget Management
  • Customer Relationship Management



All your training and instruction will continue to be built-upon and emphasized throughout the remainder of your internship as you grow in responsibility and capability.



Weeks 1 - 2 Training Objectives/Outcomes: During this fellowship, you will work towards learning how to provide Mercury Systems' customers with the network security support services expected of a Principal Program Manager. As a result of your onboarding, you will be familiar with what your responsibilities will be and what is expected of your Principal Program Manager Fellow endeavors and your efforts as an influential employee as a member of the D&N operations team.



Principal Program Manager Intern (Weeks 2 - 12): Your work will be in-person, using a live implementation of product knowledge, policy/procedural knowledge, customer relationship management, interpersonal skills, and any needed cross-team collaboration in order to coordinate successful execution of your assigned tasks within the scope of your program management responsibilities for Mercury Systems and thereby their customers.



As a Principal Program Manager Intern, your weeks will begin with clearly defined tasks determined by your supervisor. You will begin to fill your job responsibilities independently, with reviews and check-ins as determined by your supervisor. These responsibilities will cover the areas listed above in hands-on experiences assisting the D&N operations team in their daily responsibilities and business growth initiatives.




You will have the opportunity to provide input to the D&N operations team for better end-goal support of Mercury Systems' customers and take on any growth or personal tasks/projects as assigned by your supervisor during your fellowship in preparation for your continuation of the role post-fellowship.



Weeks 2-12 Internship Objectives: These live-duty fulfillments and reviews with your supervisor will ensure that you are ready to assume your responsibilities as a Principal Program Manager employee with Mercury Systems by being ready to meet all requirements designated for your role in order to successfully contribute towards the company's specific end-goals in relation to business success and customer satisfaction.



Weekly Work Expectations, which may fluctuate as decided by your supervisor:


Internship Fundamentals (10 Hours Weekly):



  • Weekly goal setting and task review meetings to cover upcoming internship assignments and their correlated duties. (Day/Time TBD). This may include task follow-ups with other members of company leadership throughout your internship as you work to transfer and broaden your military experience skillsets.


  • This will take place in-person and serve to ensure continual positive business development momentum and clear communication in your tasks and in your opportunities for individual skill and knowledge development.


  • Participate in periodic meetings with supervisor and staff to ensure timely cross-team and/or department and customer information sharing.


  • This will take place in-person and serve to ensure efficient and effective business developments and through transparent communication amongst all teams


  • Receive in-depth company provided training in order to stay up to date on all of Mercury Systems' products and business offerings.


  • This will take place in-person and serve to ensure that you are able to discuss workplace subject matters proficiently in your correspondence with your team, other departments, and customers as needed and are thereby able to assess and balance business and customer needs in relation to accomplishing your internship projects and tasks.



Fellowship Role Instruction (15 Hours Weekly):



  • Work with the D&N operations team through daily interactions, shadowing, and mentorship in order to effectively contribute towards business growth from within your scope of responsibility as the team strives for alignment between internal and external business goals and product/service offering requirements.


  • This will take place in-person and serve to ensure cohesive efforts from you and the D&N operations team in order to help lift the company to new levels of success.


  • Throughout the internship your supervisor may recommend or ask you to take on opportunities for self-guided training and learning developments in addition to your essential internship company provided trainings. These will be determined by you and




your supervisor individually in relation to developing your skill sets in your desired workplace area of expertise.



  • These may take place though a variety of methods, as is determined between you and your supervisor based on desired skills and availability.


  • Develop and maintain customer relationships, where applicable.


  • This may take place through a variety of communication options as needed while managing your responsibilities and will serve to ensure continual positive customer relationships to demonstrate Mercury Systems' dedication to clear communication while representing the company professionally and accurately.



General Assignments (10 Hours Weekly):



  • Support day-to-day business operations and goals, with any new projects or personal tasks as assigned by your supervisor.


  • This will take place in-person and serve to ensure D&N operations team cohesion and while aligning current goals for business success and customer satisfaction.



Special Internship Development Tasks: To be determined by your supervisor, which may pull away from business development trainings and project or general duties.



  • These tasks will be determined and coordinated in conjunction with the goal of leveraging your unique experiences, mindset, trainings, and leadership abilities as developed and cultivated during your military service.



End of Fellowship (Final Week, Week 12):


As your Fellowship comes to a close, you will perform any off-boarding activities required by Mercury Systems to end your SkillBridge.



Pay Grade Range
This is a SkillBridge internship opportunity and does not offer compensation outside of your normal DoD pay.
