ABOUT THE POSITION

Director of Transportation Planning | Pennsylvania

VHB is seeking an experienced, collaboration-oriented Director of Transportation Planning in Pennsylvania. This position will have significant responsibility for formulating the vision for public and private transportation planning work, business development, client management, project financial accountability, mentoring staff, and recruiting/building a team who will report to you. In your complex role, you will also assist and eventually lead the efforts to grow our private sector work in the transportation and real estate markets.

Responsibilities

    Ability to immediately deliver new public and private sector transportation and real estate work leveraging existing relationships with area transportation clients, developers and architects; priority sectors include transit & rail, mixed-use, transit-oriented development, multi-family housing, manufacturing, office, industrial, higher education, hospitality, healthcare and sports facilities
  • Demonstrate a deep understanding of permitting and entitlement processes as well as local zoning
  • Experience presenting in front of local boards and commissions for approvals
  • Work with a team of professionals to advance a range of small, medium, and large public infrastructure and private development projects
  • Develop new project opportunities and manage proposal submissions
  • Responsible for project financial performance and client relations
  • Assures that planning services are commensurate with professional standards, client requirements, and corporate objectives.
  • Responsible for the development and implementation of multiple simultaneous short-range and long-range plans, projects, programs, and/or strategies within various areas and levels of complexity.
  • Attend meetings with clients, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders to establish their needs and discuss design/permitting issues with them
  • Supervise design team activities during construction administration

Qualifications

  • BS in Planning or related area of study
  • 15+ years of planning experience focusing on transportation, transit & rail, land development, civil/site engineering, landscape architecture or planning
  • Professional planning certification preferred
  • Excellent verbal, written, interpersonal communication, and leadership skills
  • Self-motivated with attention to details and ability to think critically
  • Actively lead and participate in project delivery, maintain and build client relationships
  • Have knowledge of and experience in all aspects of transportation planning for public sector infrastructure projects as well as private sector residential, mixed-use, transit-oriented development, industrial and commercial site design in a predominantly urban environment
  • Possess thorough understanding and demonstrated experience with the permitting and approval processes
  • Track record of significant interaction and relationships with clients, local, state and federal agencies and staff

The base salary range for this position is $175,000 - $225,000. This offer is determined based on a number of job-related factors including internal comparators, skills, education, training, credentials, experience, scope and complexity of role responsibilities and geographic location.
