Job Summary: The Survey Project Manager is responsible for the success of surveying projects, keeping crews, clients, schedules, and budgets on track. This role blends technical surveying knowledge with strong leadership, organization, and client communication to deliver high-quality projects on time and on budget. Job Duties:
Manage surveying projects from kickoff to final deliverables, including scope, schedule, budget, and staffing
Coordinate field crews, office staff, and subcontractors to ensure smooth project execution
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, maintaining strong relationships and clear communication
Review and approve survey data, plats, exhibits, and reports for quality and accuracy
Develop project schedules, monitor progress, and proactively address risks or delays
Prepare and manage project budgets, track costs, and assist with invoicing
Ensure compliance with state, local, and federal surveying standards and regulations
Support proposal development, project scoping, and fee estimates
Mentor and support survey staff, fostering professional growth and team success
Collaborate with other disciplines (engineering, planning, construction) as needed
Provide construction computations as needed
Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adhere to KLJ's Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, science, or a related major, or equivalent experience in a technical or engineering firm.
- 7 to 10 years of relevant post-educational experience in a high level-contributor role within our industry, with some aspect of supervisory experience.
- Sound understanding of project delivery process within the A/E/C industry and well-defined background and experience in a technical discipline.
- Well-developed analytical and organizational skills, with business acumen to bridge business and supervision.
- Competent critical thinking and problem-solving skills to make assessments and calculations involving the application of supervisory principles, with a sound understanding of intent, impact, and optimal outcomes.
- Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing ideas effectively and professionally.
- Demonstrated high-level of self-leadership with attention to detail, multi-tasking, and adjusting readily to the changing prioritization of responsibilities in a dynamic work environment.
- Works independently with minimal oversight and provides guidance and leadership to junior team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
- Competent with technical writing, office automation, discipline-specific design software, MS Office suite products (e.g., Word, Excel, Visio, Project, SharePoint), technology, spreadsheets, and PM tools.
- Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating resources and assertively directing assigned staff to complete work responsibilities competently and efficiently.
- Ability to work schedules conducive to staff/project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical work week.
- Due to occasional travel a valid driver's license is required.

- Be able to walk on uneven terrain up to ten miles per day
- Frequently lift and move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and move up to 75 pounds
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
