Job Description - Renewables Analyst (I, II, Senior)

Position Description

Research, develop, plan, and analyze and Renewable Energy (RE) products and service opportunities, and programs for Tucson Electric Power and UNS Electric residential and commercial customers. Provide research, analysis and evaluation related to decisions on the feasibility and cost/benefit of different RE programs and customer initiatives. Provide leadership in strategic planning, analysis and direction of RE programs.

Position-Related Responsibilities

  • Performs or assists in performing analytical studies and direct cost benefit studies for RE by evaluating each program for cost effectiveness and prepares program descriptions outlining details of program implementation plan.
  • Assist the Director in ensuring proper accounting and cost recovery for the RE programs.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of other financial and statistical exhibits and analyses, reports and studies related to the strategic EE and RE Corporate goals and in support of other related areas of the Company. (i.e. forecasting, supply side-planning, accounting, auditing, regulatory affairs, etc.)
  • Develops or assists with development of strategic broad-based RE programs for residential and commercial customers.
  • Works with other departments to coordinate internal resources to provide marketing, advertising, and training during the implementation and delivery of new products and services.
  • Forecast load profiles for all RE Programs.
  • Performs analytical support work for periodic reports, testimonies, and regulatory filings. Prepares written testimonies and exhibits, and responses to questions from regulatory agencies such as the Arizona Corporation Commission and FERC related to the RE programs.
  • Oversee the monitoring and evaluation of Renewable Energy Credits for Renewable Programs to ensure complete operational compliance under existing and new program implementation.
  • Prepares or assists with preparation of program evaluations and program analysis for RE programs after implementation and report findings to the Arizona Corporation Commission.
  • Assists with technology and market research activities for RE incentive programs. Supports legacy incentive programs through analysis and evaluation.
  • Provides coordination, oversight and support in the maintenance and modifications of interconnection application tracking database. Provides enhancement feedback to the systems and application programming staff to improve the usability of the database. Works with the systems and application programming staff to troubleshoot problems related to data errors, application defects and client training.
  • Manage data and prepare reports necessary for monthly SOX compliance on all RE Programs. Develops broad knowledge of accounting principles and internal processes necessary for proper cost accounting, tracking and regulatory reporting requirements.
  • Manage data and prepare reports necessary for periodic and annual ACC reports and annual implementation plans required to meet the Renewable Energy Standard and Tariff (REST) mandate.
  • Prepares or assists in the preparation of regulatory filings, annual Implementation Plans for RE, written testimony and exhibits (for the ACC, FERC, etc.) related to RE and represents the Company at Arizona Corporation Commission Workshops and planning processes relative to RE activities.
  • Develop expert knowledge and understanding of TEP's and UES' commission approved RE Programs, Rules and Regulations, company policies and tariffs and keep abreast of current State Renewable Energy Standard and Tariff requirements.
  • Assist program managers with the development of program goals, budgets, and implementation plans that are clearly identified and aligned with utility objectives.
  • Assist in development and management of annual budgets for TEP and UES.
  • Process departmental accounting documents such as invoices, billings and purchase orders as required.
  • Report to a Program Manager or Manager and perform other assignments as requested.
  • This position may provide services to affiliates of the Company subject to the UNS Energy Code of Conduct and the related Policies and Procedures.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Analyst I
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated analytical and innovation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and innovative skills and ability to work closely with other departments.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of personal computer applications including Excel, Access, Word, OBIEE, QuickBooks and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, applied mathematics or business, and 1-year relevant experience in the utility industry with exhibited technical competence or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Responsible for individual projects under the direct supervision of a Program Manager, Manager, or a more senior Analyst.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Superior project management skills including ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, set and meet deadlines, work independently as well as in a team setting, and perform tasks with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

Analyst II
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Knowledge of basic financial analysis is required.
  • Demonstrated analytical and innovation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and innovative skills and ability to work closely with other departments.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of personal computer applications including Excel, Access, Word, OBIEE, QuickBooks and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, applied mathematics or business, and Two years of relevant experience in the utility industry with exhibited technical competence or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Responsible for individual projects with guidance as required by a Program Manager, Manager, or a more senior Analyst.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Superior project management skills including ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, set and meet deadlines, work independently as well as in a team setting, and perform tasks with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

Senior Analyst
Minimum Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership ability.
  • Demonstrated analytical and innovation skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership and innovative skills and ability to work closely with other departments.
  • Demonstrated skill in use of personal computer applications including Excel, Access, Word, OBIEE, QuickBooks and PowerPoint.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, economics, applied mathematics or business, and Four years of relevant experience in the utility industry with exhibited technical competence or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Two or more years as an RE Analyst II
  • Coaches junior analysts through technical and financial analysis on assigned projects.
  • Excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
  • Superior project management skills including ability to handle multiple tasks, prioritize, set and meet deadlines, work independently as well as in a team setting, and perform tasks with emphasis on accuracy and attention to detail.

Pay Rate: Salary determined based on candidates experience and qualifications.
