The Clinical Lead - RN is responsible for the scheduling, coordination, training, preceptoring and education of the Operations nursing staff members. The Clinical Lead is also responsible for all the same functions as the Registered Nurse.

Job Relationships

Reports to the Operations Manager.

Principal Responsibilities



  • Provide leadership within the department and act as a resource for nursing staff on a continual basis.
  • Coordinate with the Operations Manager and Operations Lead to ensure leadership coverage in the department
  • Will serve as department preceptor and collaborate with other department preceptors.
  • Collaborate with providers, staff, ancillaries and supporting departments to ensure efficient and quality patient care.
  • Collaborate with other departments to improve work flow and process development
  • Handle patient complaints as necessary.
  • Implement the onboarding of new hires and ongoing training, education and competency of existing nursing staff in collaboration with Clinical Operations.
  • Create/maintain the employee schedule and coordinate coverage to ensure all shifts are staffed.
  • In collaboration with the Operations Manager, monitor and report on employee performance/productivity.
  • Work collaboratively with the Operations Manager to investigate and report quality concerns related to OSHA, HIPAA, etc. Document encounters appropriately.
  • In collaboration with Clinical Operations assist the Operations Manager with selecting qualified candidates to join the department.
  • Assist the Operations Manager with development and maintenance of policies and procedures related to the nursing staff.
  • Prepare and present nursing staff meeting agenda and/or communication under the direction of the Operations Manager.
  • May gather statistical data, prepare reports, and present to managers and staff as needed.
  • Super user or subject matter expert for new systems, processes, applications, initiatives, etc...
  • Comply with the Springfield Clinic incident reporting policy and procedures.
  • Adhere to all OSHA and Springfield Clinic training & accomplishments as required per policy.
  • Provide excellent customer service and adhere to Springfield Clinic's Code of Conduct and Ethics Standards.
  • Perform other job duties as assigned.


Education/Experience



  • Previous nursing experience in an applicable clinical setting required.
  • Previous leadership or supervisory experience strongly desired.
  • If required to precept, successful completion of the Preceptor Program is required.


Licenses/Certificates



  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois.
  • CPR certification per American Heart Association guidelines required within 30 days of hire.


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities



  • Ability to communicate diplomatically and deal tactfully and effectively with all levels of Springfield Clinic employees, physicians, and the public.
  • Ability to remain calm and perform with accuracy under pressure/during emergent situations.


Working Environment



  • Works in an office setting during the hours the Clinic is available to patients/families.
  • Sitting vs. standing averages to 50-50%.
