Position Title: Burris Laboratory School NurseCompensation: $18.45 - 20.34Department: Burris Laboratory School_BStart Date: 04/01/2026About this opportunity: Burris Laboratory School, an innovative teaching and learning environment affiliated with Ball State University's Teachers College, welcomes applications for a School Nurse. What you'll do and what you'll bring: Position Function: Provide health care services for students of Burris Laboratory School, a K-12 laboratory school. Duties & Responsibilities: 1. Serve as first point of contact for student and staff related illnesses and injuries. Provide initial assessment and basic health care treatment such as minor first aid; take temperature, visually examine, provide bandages, etc. Determine whether further attention and assessment is necessary. 2. Contact families in the event a student needs to leave school for illness or injury. Provide professional communication regarding confidential health information to approved contacts. Review student information to ensure appropriate contacts are called and health information is only released to appropriate parties. 3. Administer scheduled and as-needed medications to students and staff in accordance with Burris policy, including oral and topical medications, insulin calculation and monitoring, and nebulizer or inhaler treatments. Maintain required medication documentation, conduct weekly audits of prescription medications, and ensure secure, confidential storage. Train designated backup staff to administer medications as needed. 4. Coordinate annual vision and hearing screenings. Contact area optometrists and nurses to complete vision screenings. Schedule with Burris administration to complete approximately 200 screenings per school year. Review Burris roster to determine who will be screened, using Indiana Department of Education requirements for state reporting. Compile results in appropriate format and submit toIDOEas required. 5. Coordinate with administrators and teachers to provide basic hygiene, dental, and health-related lessons to elementary students. 6. Provide medical supplies for day and overnight field trips. Ensure appropriate quantities of medicine are available and emergency supplies such as EpiPens and basic first aid supplies are accessible to teachers and chaperones. Review field trip rosters to identify needed supplies and medicines. 7. Use Indiana's record system,CHIRP, to review and update required student immunization information. Communicate needed immunizations to parents and guardians. 8. Maintain and oversee the school health clinic to ensure a clean, organized, and professional environment that supports student and staff health needs. Manage and monitor clinic supplies, including medications, emergency materials, and supplemental clothing, ensuring inventory is well organized, properly stored, readily available, and maintained in accordance with all applicable safety standards. 9.
