Job Responsibilities

The chemicalanalyst's responsibilities include analyzing substances todeterminetheir chemical composition, setting up labequipmentandmonitoringexperiments, compiling technical reports, and interpreting results.Followinginstructions and collaboratingwith othersis a vital part of this role.

  • Perform quality control (QC) analysis of raw materials, wood and solution samples received from Koppers customers.
  • Receiveand logsthe samples from customers.
  • Operate andmaintainlaboratory equipment includingHPLC, GC/MS, ICP-OES, X-Ray Fluorescence (XRF), Titrators, FTIR, or UV/VISspectrophotometers as well as analytical balances, pH meters, refrigerators/freezers, ovens, etc.
  • Prepare sample analysis reports for distribution asappropriate.
  • Address questions concerning sample analysis results from Koppers customers.
  • Provide analytical support for new product development projects.
  • Ensuretimelyordering of laboratory suppliestomaintainan adequate inventory.
  • Maintain a neat and clean work environment to minimize potential for contamination in the laboratory.
  • Ensure proper disposal of materials related to the specific laboratory activities.
  • Communicate with vendors of instruments and perform instrument maintenance and repair on variety of analytical instrumentation
  • Document laboratory activitiesin a timely manneraccording to Research SOPs for studies conducted in compliance with Responsible Care RC14000.
  • Uphold Zero Harm principlestomaintaina safe, compliant, and responsible working environment.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degreeOR Associate degreein chemistry, chemical engineering, technology, environmentalscience,or related field+3 years' experience
  • Experience in X-ray, HPLC, GC/MS, titration, ICP-ESor other analytical techniques preferred.
  • Ability to adapt to deadlines and accept challenges.
  • Excellent organization and attention to detail.
  • Strong computer background.
