Job Summary


Come join our dynamic, highly skilled Fein Memory and Aging Center (MAC) team. The Fein MAC offers expert diagnosis and care for people with memory and thinking issues. The purpose of the Frontotemporal Dementia: Genes, Images, and Emotions Program Project Grant, led by Drs. Maria Luisa Gorno-Tempini, Bill Seeley, and Howie Rosen, is to help understand the clinical, genetic, imaging, emotional and diagnostic features of frontotemporal dementia (FTD). The study collects longitudinal clinical, imaging, behavioral and autopsy data to be analyzed with the goal of improving clinical care for patients with FTD. We value individuals who are professional and compassionate with a passion for providing care for patients with neurodegenerative disease and their caregivers. Our Fein MAC APPs manage patients collaboratively with MAC behavioral neurology fellows and physicians, neuropsychology fellows and neuropsychologists, speech language therapists, genetic counselors, and research coordinators.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.

Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.

The salary range for this position is $100.52 - $130.43 (Hourly Rate).

Department Description

The Memory and Aging Center (MAC) is a clinical research unit within the UCSF Department of Neurology that investigates the clinical (neurological, cognitive, behavioral, neuroanatomic) characteristics of various neurodegenerative diseases. The Primary Investigator's (PI) research within the MAC focuses on the decision-making processes in patients with frontotemporal dementia (FTD), Alzheimer's Disease (AD), primary progressive aphasia (PPA), and other neurodegenerative disorders.

Required Qualifications

Graduation from a California Board of Registered Nursing approved or verified school of nursing with a master's degree in nursing or a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP).

Nurse Practitioner 1 (less than six (6) months of experience as an NP)

  • One to three years of recent experience in research.
  • One to three years of recent experience with psychiatric and/or cognitively impaired patients, including those diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia, progressive nuclear palsy, and/or corticobasal degeneration.

Preferred Qualifications


  • One year or greater experience in dementia research
  • One year or greater RN experience in Neurology

License/Certification


  • California Registered Nurse (RN) License without restriction
  • California Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) without restriction
  • California Nurse Practitioner Furnishing Number including Schedule II furnishing privileges
  • NP national board certification from an accepted certifying agency aligned with the patient population and clinical role: Adult Outpatient (A-GNP-C, ANP-C, FNP-C, GNP-C, AGPCNP-BC, ANP-BC, FNP-BC, GNP-BC, ACNP-BC, AGACNP-BC, ACNPC-AG, ACNPC) or Psychiatric and Mental Health Care (PMHNP-BC)
  • California Driver License (if required for position)
  • Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) Registration with Schedules 2, 2N, 3, 3N, 4, and 5 registered to a California address
  • American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
  • Additional required AHA certifications: None additional to BLS
  • Additional required certifications (such as ENLS): Clinical Dementia Rating (CDR) certification

In most cases this is done through its Office of Medical Affairs & Governance (OMAG) prior to the first working day. Credentialing and approval of the Standardized Procedures takes between 60-90 days but can vary.
