Summary

The Energy Consultant provides coordination, integration, management analysis and reporting of department financial statements, monthly and quarterly business unit activities, report reconciliation, and system reporting; May serve as technical resource to department analysts and other personnel on resolving reconciliation problems and interpreting information, contracts, agreements, generally accepted accounting principles.

Minimum Requirements

  • BS degree in Business, Accounting or Finance
  • And 5 years experience in accounting reconciliation, energy billing, or financial reporting and analysis; current experience in utility operations related to generation modeling, deregulated retail, and trading; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Knowledge of the applied use of energy accounting processes, related auditing techniques, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • General knowledge of Risk Management, trading terminology and activities, energy market dynamics, and energy products.
  • Knowledge of the valuation and risk management of futures, options and other derivatives, and a thorough understanding of commodity trading and options valuation as it relates to energy markets, resource generation and transmission system concepts required. Some experience working with the administration of energy contracts and the development, implementation and maintenance of financial reports and spreadsheets.
  • A thorough knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Access, PowerPoint and Word.

Major Accountabilities

1) May coordinate, integrate financial data flow, analyze, prepare and ensure monthly operations reports covering gross margin, compare total sales and revenue to annual targets; oversee validation, analysis and reporting of direct access settlements; assist in the development of marketing strategies by providing consultation on financial impact of moving power into other States; oversee process of pass-through billing of direct access settlements to ISO and other entities through special contract billing arrangements; maintain acumen by reviewing legal findings, regulatory rules, pronouncements, contracts and operating agreements; interface with IS organization to ensure functionality of settlement validation and reporting system; develop settlement system specifications.

2) May ensure that the reconciliation of transactions recorded by the traders and marketers to system records occurs on a daily basis and that the formal daily check out process of positions with traders is accomplished in accordance with department guidelines; resolve disputes and support with proper documentation; ensure book positions are within parameters/limits defined in control documents, strategies used are within approved guidelines and that transaction classifications are proper.

3) May serve as technical resource to department analysts and other personnel on resolving interpreting contracts/agreements, settlement issues, and account booking of transactions.Develops solutions/alternatives to complex problems requiring evaluation of a broad range of factors and which involve trading strategies, the evaluation and risk management of futures, options, and other derivatives; Exercises judgment within broadly defined practices and policies in determining methods, techniques, and evaluating criteria for obtaining results; Serves as technical resource to other staff members in developing analysis and interpreting contract parameters/ agreements/ policies to ensure compliance with policies and government rules and regulations. May develop specification enhancements of database systems used to develop solutions to data integrity and reporting.

  • Employees are expected to reside in Arizona (or New Mexico for Four Corners-based employees).
  • Working from a home office requires adequate technology and an appropriate ergonomic set up.
