American Specialty Healthcare Incorporated (ASH) is seeking Legal Counsel to join our Legal & Contracts department.
The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Legal department with various legal issues, including contract review, employment law, research, writing, and other projects as they arise.
Salary Range
American Specialty Health complies with state and federal wage and hour laws and compensation depends upon candidate's qualifications, education, skill set, years of experience, and internal equity. $69,200 to $90,000 Full-Time Annual Salary Range. Remote Worker Guidelines
- Remote Worker Guidelines: This position will be trained remotely and must be able to work from home (WFH) in a designated work area with company-provided technology equipment. This WFH position requires you have a stable connection to your Internet Service Provider with the ability to participate by video in online meetings over a reliable and consistent network. The internet connection must have a consistent 50 down/10 up Mbps minimum internet speed. 100 down/20 up is recommended to support higher quality video meetings.
Responsibilities
- Working with other attorneys, responsible for legal research, writing, and other legal deliverables including providing legal opinions and advice.
- Work with employment counsel on employment law and HR related matters, including attending meetings, starting and completing projects, learning employment laws, provide advice and counsel at the direction of or under the supervision of counsel assigned to employment law matters.
- Work with contracts counsel on contracted related matters, including drafting, completing projects, reviewing and providing advice under the supervision of counsel assigned to contract law matters.
- Work with internal stakeholders and/or outside counsel to assist with identifying business risks and associated mitigating factors and provide related legal guidance and recommendations to the business to assist the business with decision making.
- Review and respond to legal matters related to requests for proposals (RFPs), audits (client, regulatory, accreditation, etc.) and the like.
- Conduct research and draft memos on projects as assigned.
- Attend meetings and assist counsel and/or provide direction, advice, and opinions to stakeholders.
- Take on new assignment and responsibilities as they arise and are assigned with the goal of providing legal advice to stakeholders, or for improving knowledge or resources of the Legal department.
- Assist other departments as assigned.
- Work with and provide advice to and/or supervise projects of, or work in collaboration with Paralegal, Legal Ops manager, Legal fellow, or other legal staff as assigned including substantive and administrative projects.
- Identify and complete research projects.
- Maintain active and in good standing license to practice law in at least one state or the District of Columbia.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Complies with all policies and standards.
Qualifications
- Law degree from an ABA accredited school required.
- 1 year experience as a practicing attorney preferred.
- Interest in Health care law; health care law education concentration, general work experience in health care preferred, or 1-2 years of working in a corporate environment preferred.
- Excellent research skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

- Strong analytical and expert writing skills.
- Meticulous attention to detail.
- Proven experience analyzing fact patterns and issue spotting.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, both individually and as part of a team, information, problems, issues, situations and procedures to develop effective solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize the need to and raise issues to manager.
- Actively licensed attorney in good standing in at least one state or the District of Columbia required.
