This position will be 80% on-site at the UCLA campus and be able to work 20% remotely.

This is a one year contract with the possibility of extension and/or conversion to a career appointment.


Department Summary

The goal of the Semel Healthy Campus Initiative (HCI) Center at UCLA is to improve the health and well-being of the UCLA community through the development of new ideas and expansion of existing programs in education, service, and research. Semel HCI Center serves as an incubator for innovative well-being interventions which provide students, faculty, and staff with knowledge and the opportunity to expand their well-being with tools to attain success in their professional, personal, and academic lives. Semel HCI Center's staff conducts its work with a broad network of supporters which include senior leadership, deans, vice chancellors and a myriad of faculty, staff, student leaders, and collaborators at UCLA, UCOP and beyond. Semel HCI Center's work is interconnected at all levels among all stakeholders and through a collaborative approach, the Center strives to create a work environment based on respect, kindness, inclusiveness, consideration and professionalism in which each team member focuses on utilizing and maximizing their strengths to contribute to Semel HCI Center's success. Each core staff member is responsible for their primary area of focus with the understanding that the product of their collaborative efforts, supporting one another as a team, are of greater value to Semel HCI Center's contribution to the University's strategic plan than the sum value of everyone's solitary role. Thus, this incubator model allows Semel HCI Center to succeed with a small core staff.
Position Summary

This position serves as the chief administrator for the Associate Vice Provost of the Semel Healthy Campus Initiative (HCI) Center at UCLA within the Chancellor's Organization, with the primary focus of creating structure and processes in operationalizing priorities bridging the gap between the AVP's vision and the day to day operations to allow the AVP to focus on strategic priorities to actualize the evolving plan for the Semel HCI Center as the definitive wellbeing research center founded on the concept of inclusive excellence. The position provides the highest level of executive operational support for the AVP, fluid management of the Semel HCI Center, including management of the Initiative's campus-wide and UC system-wide financial commitments.


Salary & Compensation

*UCLA provides a full pay range. Actual salary offers consider factors, including budget, prior experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business considerations. Qualifications

  • Minimum of 6 years of progressive financial management experience in a fast-paced, large-complex department. (Required)
  • Minimum 8 years leadership experience in operations and budget management in a fluid, continuously evolving organization with demonstrated experience developing opportunities that creatively and effectively incorporate health and wellbeing into the organizational culture. (Required)
  • Experience in overseeing projects in a fast-paced environment with ability to work independently in a complex working environment that requires great flexibility, efficiency, quick response time and prioritization of tasks with multiple and competing deadlines. (Required)
  • Experience and working knowledge of Semel Healthy Campus Initiative Center: core values and goals, key participants, major areas of focus and projects. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated experience in managing complex budgets with multiple fund sources and multiple entities from UCLA, UCOP and other UC campuses. Demonstrated competence in accounting and business practices to identify pertinent issues and ability to recognize when expert guidance needs to be sought. (Required)
  • Experience writing grants and working with contracts and grants including familiarity with IRB, IRB requirements, IRB applications, IRB renewal processes; proposal writing to secure funding; preparing grant narratives and accounting documentation; coordination of grant reporting to funders. (Preferred)
  • Demonstrated ability to address complex issues utilizing a clear, thoughtful manner and to come to resolution quickly without compromising the projects or relationships with the people involved. (Required)
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills to clearly convey and obtain information to individuals at various organizational levels and to groups of different constituencies. Outstanding editing skills to ensure the highest standards of consistency, professionalism, accuracy are met. (Required)
  • Demonstrated strategic thinking, planning and implementation skills coupled with solid professional judgment to anticipate problems and develop innovative solutions to correct problems or anticipate/prevent obstacles. (Required)
  • Exceptional leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively build and maintain cooperative working relationships with diverse stakeholders; executive level advising and working effectively with senior leadership; ability to work as part of a team, and as a mentor. (Required)
  • Demonstrated fiscal management, time management, organizational skills to manage multiple and complex projects within designated schedules, set priorities that accurately reflect the relative importance of job duties and effectively complete assigned tasks to meet goals and objectives. (Required)
  • Demonstrated skill in staff supervision and development, including training, mentoring, delegating work and reviewing performance. (Required)

  • Masters or equivalent with minimum 8 years of budget and operations experience (Required)
