At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We're working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!
This role supports the development and operations of New Glenn, a single-configuration, heavy-lift orbital launch vehicle capable of routinely carrying people and payloads to low-Earth orbit, geostationary transfer orbit, cislunar, and beyond. Its first stage is fully reusable, and the vehicle was designed from the beginning to be human-capable.
Purpose: The Principal Systems Integration Engineer will serve as a technical individual contributor focused on improving how enterprise technology, engineering systems, configuration management, and vehicle integration processes work together to support efficient and reliable launch operations. This role bridges the strategic needs of the business with technology and process improvements, aligning tactical implementation with company-level goals of rate, customer compliance, and mission assurance. This position will operate as a technical leader without direct reports, influencing engineering, manufacturing, integration, and test through subject matter expertise ad cross-functional collaboration. Key Responsibilities:
- AI Enablement for Engineering Workflows
- Identify and promote practical applications of AI to improve engineering productivity across the product lifecycle.
- Partner with DESA and ET to ensure AI tools are effectively integrated and compliant with customer and company policies.
- Translate real operational problems from integration and test environments into opportunities for AI-enabled automation or decision support.
- Enterprise Technology Systems Leadership
- Partner with the DESA team to serve as a subject matter expert on how enterprise systems (PLM, QMS, MES, ERP) support vehicle development, integration, and launch operations.
- Provide guidance and ground-level direction on how engineering organizations should leverage these systems to improve execution efficiency.
- Identify gaps between current tools and operational needs and propose improvements or new capabilities.
- Influence (with DESA) the ET roadmap prioritization and provide grounded impact assessments for the various business technology needs.
- Configuration Management & Vehicle Baselines
- Provide hands-on expertise in configuration management practices across the vehicle lifecycle.
- Identify and document practice vs process misalignment and ensure procedural compliance with command media, or influence changes to command media in order to reflect real-world operational value.
- Ensure accurate definition and control of vehicle configurations from design through integration, test, launch, and refurbishment.
- Integration of Digital & Physical Systems
- Bridge enterprise engineering systems and company command media with physical vehicle integration and test processes.
- Ensure the digital configuration baselines reflect physical real-world hardware builds and test configurations by assisting the configuration and development team document reconciliation processes and identify systems gaps to mitigate risk or fully close process noncompliance.
- Build-to-Build Continuous Improvement
- Capture lessons learned from vehicle integration and test operations and translate them into improvements across process, technology, and practice.
- Identify opportunities to improve vehicle build efficiency by optimizing configuration management practices, part reuse strategies, and build planning.
- Drive initiatives that improve traceability, reliability, and efficiency across the vehicle's entire lifecycle.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor of Science degree in Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in systems engineering, integration, and/or manufacturing in a complex product development environment (e.g., aerospace, automotive, defense).
- Direct, hands-on experience with configuration management principles and practices across a product's lifecycle.
- Proven experience working with and influencing the integration of enterprise systems such as Product Lifecycle Management (PLM), Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES), or Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP).
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional technical projects and influence teams without direct authority.
- Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with an ability to translate complex technical concepts between different engineering and business teams.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Desired Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in a relevant engineering or technology field.
- 15+ years of relevant experience.
- Direct experience in the aerospace industry, particularly with launch vehicle or spacecraft integration, test, and operations.
- Demonstrated experience identifying and implementing AI/ML applications to solve real-world engineering or operational problems.
- Deep subject matter expertise in at least one major enterprise system (e.g., Siemens Teamcenter, Windchill, SAP, Dassault Systemes 3DEXPERIENCE).
- Experience with digital thread/twin concepts and bridging digital models with physical hardware builds and test configurations.
- Proven track record of driving continuous improvement initiatives (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma) that result in measurable gains in efficiency, reliability, or cost reduction.
- Experience authoring or significantly contributing to company-level command media, processes, or standards.
