Job Description

The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department at the University of Missouri-Columbia (Mizzou) invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track teaching position in Mechatronics Engineering Technology. This position focuses on applied, hands-on instruction supporting an ABET-ETAC-accredited engineering technology curriculum. The successful candidate will emphasize experiential learning, laboratory instruction, and industry-relevant skills while contributing to continuous program improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Teach UG engineering technology courses in mechatronics-related areas, such as:
    • Applied mechatronic systems and integration
    • Sensors, actuators, and instrumentation
    • Embedded controllers, PLCs, and industrial automation
    • Applied control systems
    • Robotics, manufacturing automation, and cyber-physical systems
  • Develop and deliver laboratory-intensive and project-based courses.
  • Coordinate, maintain, and enhance instructional laboratories and equipment.
  • Supervise student design projects and capstone experiences.
  • Participate in ABET-ETAC assessment, documentation, and continuous improvement activities.
  • Advise and mentor students, including those pursuing internships and industry careers.
  • Contribute to departmental service activities that support teaching and student success.
Qualifications

* Master's degree or Ph.D. in Engineering Technology, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Electrical Engineering Technology, or a closely related applied engineering field.
* Candidates will be evaluated on demonstrated commitment to hands-on, applied teaching and student-centered learning.
* Candidates will be evaluated on practical experience integrating mechanical, electrical, and software components in mechatronic systems.
* Candidates will be evaluated on strong communication and organizational skills.
* Candidates will be evaluated on prior teaching experience in engineering technology or applied engineering programs.
* Candidates will be evaluated on industry experience in mechatronics, automation, manufacturing, robotics, or controls.
* Candidates will be evaluated on experience with ABET-ETAC accreditation and outcomes assessment.
* Candidates will be evaluated on proficiency with applied tools and platforms such as PLCs (Allen-Bradley, Siemens), microcontrollers (Arduino, Raspberry Pi, STM32), MATLAB/Simulink, industrial sensors and motor drives, HMIs, and CAD software.
