Position Description

This is an individual contributor position reporting to the Manufacturing Engineering Supervisor. The Manufacturing Engineer facilitates the manufacturing process and contributes to cost containment objectives through the management of the manufacturing, process, tools and equipment within corporate quality, safety and regulatory standards. Ensures all safety procedures are in place and are being followed by employees. Coordinates with engineering staff and other supervisors to set priorities for projects and ensure they are met.

This individual will be accountable for coordinating or leading multiple projects or teams concurrently, working with cross functional teams including product engineering, procurement, quality, and operations. They will both individually and as a team leader analyze manufacturing problems and develop alternative cost effective efficient approaches to their problems. They will conduct systematic audits of operations and records of labor and material usage, identify variances from standards, and work with engineers and production supervisors to correct them.

Key Responsibilities
  • Become an expert on the manufacturing processes of the product lines assigned to them. Establish familiarity with other plant areas and product lines to provide backup coverage as needed. Establish detailed understanding of the products' mechanical and electrical systems and how to achieve repeatable, quality production processes. Develop detailed understanding product Bill of Materials structures.
  • Respond on-the-fly to production issues as they arise, analyze problems, and develop safe, cost-effective solutions. Document issues, develop long term permanent corrective countermeasures, and implement to production.
  • Lead plant-level change implementation for all assigned product lines including engineering change requests, new product development, and procurement initiatives.
  • Analyze current state production processes, identify opportunities for improvement in safety, quality, and efficiency, and lead teams to implement production process changes. Audit and prepare written reports of operations identifying potential cost reductions, procedural and material variances; estimate project feasibility. Provide management with data to understand future state requirements.
  • Play a key role in cost reduction, waste minimization, product and process FMEAS, and ISO. Use manufacturing process strategies and methodologies such as Lean and Six Sigma.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and independent problem solving with processes, mechanical systems, and some electrical systems.
  • Analyze and plan workflow, equipment placement and space requirements to improve manufacturing efficiency.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and repair services and make sure that manufacturer's procedures and industry best practices are followed in order to keep production equipment operational.
  • Develops and maintains prepares written procedures and reference documents to assure safe, effective use of material and equipment.
  • Designs fixtures and special application tools through maintenance and tool room employees or through outside vendors to acquire fixtures and tools.
  • Supports manufacturing with understanding and application of various plant-specific software, such as SAP, Solid Edge, SigmaNest, and Salvagnini STREAM. Proficiency in data analysis using Microsoft Excel.
  • Oversees various plant -related projects involving company employees and outside contractors.
  • Supports and remains committed to plant safety, and plays an active part in safety meetings.
Required Education & Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline with 0-5 years Engineering experience is desired.
