Position Description

As a lead content specialist (in the Office of Communications & Marketing), you will create and manage engaging content that populates a variety of digital and traditional platforms at Texas Tech University, including websites, blogs, printed material, advertisements, social media and more. You will work closely with leadership in the Office of Communications and Marketing and other university stakeholders to create and maintain content that adheres to brand standards and effectively engages target audiences.

About the Department and/or College

The Texas Tech University College of Arts & Sciences was founded in 1925 as one of the university's four original colleges. Comprised of 15 departments, the college offers a wide variety of courses and programs in the humanities, social and behavioral sciences, mathematics and natural sciences. Students can choose from 42 bachelor's degree programs, 34 master's degrees and 14 doctoral programs. With more than 11,000 students (10,100 undergraduate and 1,350 graduate) enrolled, the College of Arts & Sciences is the largest college on the Texas Tech University campus.
The Dean's Office in the College of Arts and Sciences is dedicated to the success of our faculty, students and staff. The College of Arts and Sciences Marketing & Communications team provides leadership and support to promote the college and enhance its reputation. Our work helps build and strengthen relationships between the college and its key audiences, including students, faculty, peer institutions, alumni, donors, and the media.

Major/Essential Functions


  • Lead the creation of visually compelling design and photo content for the college's digital and print communications.
  • Work with various departments and units to develop creative content that effectively engages target audiences.
  • Ensure that university-approved branding guidelines are consistently applied in all projects.
  • Plan and organize effectively, prioritize goals, use time efficiently, stay on task, and meet deadlines.

To be successful in this role, you must demonstrate

  • Strong work ethic, flexibility, and ability to multi-task while still adhering to marketing and communications principles
  • Bring innovative ideas and concepts to creative meetings.
  • Proficiency in Creative Programs (Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, etc.)
  • Experience developing content for print and digital platforms
  • Experience in editing photography
  • Design and production experience
  • Awareness of current design trends
  • Copywriting experience
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Asana, Trello, SharePoint, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities


  • Knowledge of UI/UX principles
  • Knowledge/awareness of current trends in social media
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
  • Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with both external and internal audiences.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in specialization or closely related field. Five years of experience in digital content creation. Ability to mentor student interns and fellow team members. Familiarity with content management systems and digital marketing tools. Strong writing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail and grammar. Ability to communicate effectively with both external and internal audiences. Understanding of SEO best practices and experience with keyword research. Excellent organizational and project management skills

Preferred Qualifications


  • Strong proofing and editing skills with a keen eye for detail.
  • Photography experience.
  • Ability to mentor student interns and fellow team members.
