DESCRIPTION


Are you ready to make a real impact on your community? The City of Corona is looking for a dynamic and driven individual to join our Public Works Department as an Assistant Project Manager in the Capital Improvement Program (CIP) Division. The primary responsibilities for this position are the planning, design, and construction of capital improvement plan projects, including but not limited to utilities, streets, storm drains, parks and facilities.

Currently there is one (1) vacancy in the utility engineering division.


Knowledge & Education
  • Equivalent to a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major courses in civil engineering or related fields.
  • No experience is required.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License, to be maintained throughout employment. Skills/Abilities
  • Perform a diverse range of entry-level engineering tasks in the design and construction management of City Capital Improvement Plan projects.
  • Prepare, analyze, understand, and interpret engineering studies, engineering plans and specifications, and various regulatory documents and guidelines and determine conformance with applicable laws and standards; research, analyze, and summarize data; perform accurate engineering calculations and cost estimates.
  • Interpret and make sound, independent decisions on design criteria, policies, ordinances, and procedures.
  • Analyze, interpret, summarize, and present administrative and technical information and data in an effective manner, including written reports.
  • Assist in and develop and administer contracts for professional services and construction in a public agency setting.
  • Investigate field conditions for project feasibility and/or issues which arise during the construction process. Characteristics

Candidates that successfully pass the screening process and are deemed to possess the most desirable qualifications may be invited to a virtual HireVue interview. In-person oral interviews are tentatively scheduled for the week of March 19, 2026 . The top scoring candidates from the oral interview will be placed on an eligibility list from which the department may hire.
The successful candidate will be required to undergo a reference / background check including livescan and pass a pre-employment medical examination (which will include a drug/alcohol screening).

The Organization
The City of Corona is a General Law city operating under a Council-Manager form of government. Policymaking and legislative authority is vested in the City Council, consisting of a Mayor and four Council Members. Members of the City Council are elected by District to a four-year term. The Mayor is selected by the Council and serves as the presiding officer for one year.
The City is organized into the following departments/organizational units: Community Services, City Manager's Office, Economic Development, Finance, Fire, Human Resources, Information Technology, Legal and Risk Management, Police, Planning & Development, Public Works and Utilities. Oversight of these departments is divided between the City Manager and two Assistant City Managers.
The City's total operating budget for Fiscal Year 2026 is $422.7 million with a General Fund operating budget of $231.3 million. Corona enjoys a workforce of 935 dedicated employees who provide high-quality services to its residents and visitors each day.
