Scope of Role

The Clinical Excellence Director serves as a strategic and operational dyad leader with the Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness and Pathways to advance Corewell Health's systemwide clinical standardization strategy. This role leads the implementation of disciplined, evidence-based programs that deliver the highest standard of care ensuring affordability, consistency, reliability, and equitable outcomes across all sites. The Director provides leadership for the Clinical Standardization & Pathways and Clinical Policy & Protocols teams, ensuring effective development, execution, and continuous improvement of multidisciplinary groups dedicated to clinical advancement. This role is accountable for driving systemwide standardization initiatives-including the Provider Scorecard, Care & Coverage collaboration efforts, and the clinical governance structure-to promote consistency, quality, and reliability across all sites.

This leader is responsible for establishing and sustaining the infrastructure, governance, analytics, and financial frameworks necessary for ongoing improvement and measurable value, while partnering closely with key stakeholders such as Quality, Supply Chain, Data Analytics, Operations, Population Health and Utilization Management to ensure alignment and impact. The role reports directly to the Vice President, Clinical Effectiveness and Pathways, with regular on-site presence required across Corewell Health delivery system locations.

Essential Functions

  • Partner with supply chain leaders to enable initiatives that address supply cost variation and drive operational efficiencies, supporting the sustainability of the health system.

  • In partnership with the Vice President of Clinical Effectiveness and Pathways, develop, implement, and evaluate comprehensive system-wide clinical excellence and standardization strategy that aligns with the organization's mission and strategic vision.

  • Provide leadership and strategic direction to clinical excellence teams including clinical standardization & pathways, and clinical policies & protocols. Foster a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, team engagement and high performance. Develop talent, build bench strength, and support professional development.

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with physician and operational leaders. Support the engagement of front line clinicians to drive ownership and adoption of standardization efforts. Serve as a system champion for clinical excellence, promoting clear communication and alignment across departments.

  • Monitor and analyze department and program metrics, as well as strategic initiatives, to ensure accurate and timely communication to stakeholders, executive leadership, and boards. Provide clear, actionable reporting that supports accountability and drives effective execution of organizational goals.

  • Support the development and deployment of the systemwide Provider Scorecard, ensuring metrics reflect organizational priorities. Partner with Data Analytics teams to ensure integrity, accuracy, and usability of scorecard metrics. Support leaders in using data to drive improvement, accountability, and transparency.

  • Plan, attend and contribute in recurring leadership meetings, steering committees, and cross-functional workgroups focused on advancing clinical excellence, standardization, and evidence-based practice across all care settings. Ensure meeting agendas and discussions are strategically aligned with organizational goals.

  • Support the development and stewardship of the annual budget and resource allocation for clinical standardization initiatives, ensuring financial stewardship and value realization.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related field. Required

  • Master's Degree in Healthcare Administration, Business Administration, Nursing or related field. Preferred

  • 7 years of relevant experience Healthcare quality program(s), clinical operations or nursing. Required

  • 5 years of relevant experience leadership role in healthcare environment. Required

  • Experience in execution of strategic business plans. Required

  • Experience in facilitating effective, collaborative work teams involving individuals of diverse backgrounds. Required

  • Experience in data sets and performing statistical analysis when needed. Required
