Grinder

Position Summary

Grind assigned parts during the manufacture process of railroad equipment including set up and secure parts and assemblies according to specifications, using fixtures and/or blue prints combined with measuring devices.

Operational Duties:

* Operate a heavy duty pneumatic (air-powered) grinder equipped with a cup wheel to smooth, shape or remove material from steel surfaces

* Clean and finish steel parts, removing excess weld material, rust, scale and other surfaces defects

* Work on large or heavy steel parts, including castings, frames, pipes and plates, either at a bench, a downdraft table or in position

* Handle and position heavy work pieces using hoists, forklifts, or other equipment as required

* Adjust the grinder's controls for speed and feed rates based on properties and project specifications

* Maintain focus and physical stamina while performing repetitive tasks for extended periods
