Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking to hire a Senior Manager for Nuclear Operations. Reporting to the Nuclear Facility Manager/Operations and Maintenance Director, the Nuclear Operations Manager will lead safe, compliant, and reliable nuclear facility operations in SRNL. This role will work closely with the Operations Support Manager and provide day-to-day operational leadership and long-range planning to ensure mission execution while meeting DOE Orders, nuclear safety basis requirements, technical safety requirements, and site procedures. The Nuclear Operations Manager must build a strong operations culture grounded in Conduct of Operations, human performance, and continuous improvement.


  • Lead and manage nuclear operations activities to ensure safe, secure, and compliant facility performance.
  • Lead operations organizations (shift operations, facility operations support, and field execution) with a strong focus on Conduct of Operations.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable DOE Orders, regulations, authorization basis/DSA, TSRs, and site policies.
  • Drive operational discipline, including procedure adherence, lockout/tagout, configuration management, work control, and conservative decision-making.
  • Partner with Nuclear Safety, Maintenance, Engineering, Radiation Protection, Security, Emergency Management, and Quality to integrate safe work planning and execution.
  • Oversee shift routines, turnover, event response, and abnormal/emergency operating guidance; serve in an on-call leadership capacity as required.
  • Lead event critiques, causal analysis support, and corrective action planning; ensure effective closure and learning organization practices.
  • Develop and mentor shift managers, supervisors and operators; set performance expectations and ensure qualification/training requirements are met.
  • Support readiness assessments, management assessments, audits, and DOE oversight engagements; ensure timely, accurate responses and sustained improvements.
  • Manage operational performance indicators, budgeting inputs, staffing plans, and resource prioritization to meet mission needs.
  • Champion Integrated Safety Management (ISM), HPI tools, and strong safety culture expectations

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Bachelor's degree in engineering, physical sciences, nuclear technology, or related discipline (or equivalent combination of education and applicable experience).

  • Minimum 8-12 years of progressively responsible experience in nuclear operations or nuclear facility management (DOE or commercial nuclear).

  • For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is Legally Required

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated leadership experience managing supervisors/teams in a high-hazard or nuclear environment.
  • Working knowledge of DOE nuclear operations requirements, Conduct of Operations principles, and authorization basis implementation.
  • Strong communication skills, operational decision-making ability, and experience leading through oversight and regulatory engagement.
