Role

Under the general supervision, works as an educator to promote and teach visitors (children and adults), about the importance of resource conservation. Will be responsible for scheduling and leading tours, assisting with art openings, assisting with development of educational programs and other outreach activities.

Working hours are typically Mon-Fri, 9am-5:30pm. Some Saturdays, some Tuesday evenings and art show openings, as well.

Essential Responsibilities
  • Conducts and schedules educational tours about recycling, composting, sustainability, and facility operations for children and adults including school field trips, youth groups, community groups, international groups, and members of the general public.
  • Researches and develops new educational programs and age-appropriate instructional materials for Environmental Learning Center to promote environmental responsibility and stewardship.
  • Creates fact sheets and informational/educational documents for students, teachers, designers and other visitors that encourage increased recycling and composting.
  • Writes communication materials related to environmental education.
  • Designs and implements environmental workshops.
  • Assists in monitoring educational activities.
  • Works with manager to recruit, train and schedule education and tour volunteers and interns.
  • Organizes events to raise awareness of environmental issues. Attends tabling events promoting programs and gives presentations at schools and community organizations.
  • Stays current to trends and practices in the field of resource recovery.
  • Assists with scheduling and performs related administrative tasks, such as maintaining databases, sending out tour surveys, and tracking tour attendees.
  • Collects data from multiple sources, creates tracking systems and reports, and analyzes information to measure the impact and reach of the AIR/ELC Programs.
  • Creates content for social media and newsletters, and designs educational posters and pamphlets.
  • Assists Artist in Residence staff with designing and building exhibits for educational gallery and classroom, including games, kiosks, and posters.
  • Assists with Artist in Residence openings and installations as needed.
  • Travel may be required for meetings and/or site visits.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Knowledge of natural and environmental science.
  • 2+ years of experience working in resource recovery industry preferred.
  • Knowledge of establishing and maintaining credibility with the public, partners, customers and co-workers.
  • Experience working with adults and children to assess their needs in an effort to transfer knowledge.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including active listening and ability to communicate ideas appropriate to the audience.
  • High school diploma or GED, BS in Environmental Studies or other science-based degree preferred.
